CHoW#316 :: FINALS :: Pele - Goddess of Fire and Volcanos

    Name: ChowBanner2012rev01.jpg
Views: 1694
Size: 118.1 KB

    Character of the Week #316
Pele - Goddess of Fire and Volcanos

    Deadline - Sunday, February 10 10PM GMT

Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire and Volcanos. She is both creator and destroyer, a Goddess who devours the land.
Pele controls the great flows of lava and molten fountains of the great volcanos. She is also known for her violent temper
which reveals itself through great eruptions in volcanos throughout the island of Hawaii.

This week we would like you to design Pele, Goddess of Fire and Volcanoes.

    The Guidelines:
    • Must be human female
    • Must be Hawaiian and this must be evident in your design
    • Remember the 3/4 rule

    The Rules
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
    • Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
    • At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
    • Background is optional
    • Have fun!

A great round! I learned tons which is most important,
my idea is that she bathes in molten lava where she's most at home,
i tried to push beauty because she's a goddess.

I didn't have much time, but I had a pretty clear idea in my head and I wanted to try a different style.

My final. I always thought that it sucked that Pele couldn't leave her volcano. She was probably bored and lonely. You can hardly blame a girl for the occasional eruption.

Here's my final. My thought behind it was to see her as child, as a volcano still under the ocean before becoming one of the Hawaiian islands.
She wears a sperm whale tooth necklace (lei niho palaoa) which meant power among Hawaiian people.

Heres my entry this chow, didn't have as much time as would have liked due to work. Really enjoyed the subject and loved working on the lava. Got rid of the flower hand as it was not working compositionally.

Nice work, guys! Saw the topic late, but here's what I came up with...

EDIT: Oops, I didn't see the cut-off. I was too late lol! Good job to everyone anyway, it was fun seeing what everyone came up with.

looks like a case of trolololololollololo, and a very sad one at that.

you don't have to go around calling people trolls, that in itself makes you a troll

    and a very pathetic one

I'm just confused as to what we're supposed to be voting on, artistic skill or just the most creative/bizarre design?
