    WIP 3!!!!!!

I know I'm having too much fun with something when I can do almost all of it in one sitting. Still gotta render the clothing and what ever else I may stick in there...Oh yea the lava!

Maybe bring up the knee further than I have it, I think its too far down.

    some ideas for all

i just want to remind and give ideas that i think would be really cool for Pele.

"Several phenomena connected to volcanism have been named after her, including Pele's hair, Pele's tears, and Limu o Pele (Pele's seaweed)" -Wikipedia

i think giving her hair made of the volcanic glass called 'Pele's Hair' would be really neat. also know she has a really interesting back story. i'd definitely read some of these mythologies to help add to your paintings.

You don't have to follow the exact lore of the myth. It is all for your interpretation, you decide what she looks like, as long as you follow the guidelines of the brief. If you want to get ideas from the actual myths of Pele, that's fine too. Just remember, these are all for exploring your ideas upon reading the brief.

    Pele WIP

I may take away her traditional Hawaiian lei's, something about them makes her look less godly to me and more Hula dancer...
I dunno, we'll see. Definitely loving the new brushes on photoshop, making me work faster thankfully.

@ Havok: I feel like your colors are a tad overblown. You may take it as a matter of differing tastes, but either the saturation in some areas needs to come down or perhaps different bright hues would look better in proximity. I don't think wild coloring is bad, but when everything is deeply saturated then it's an overload; also, the pop of saturation is somewhat lessened by the aforementioned ubiquitousness.

Sup. Here's my first official post in any contest or anything.
So here are a couple concepts I'm tinkering with, will settle with one after I play around a bit.

Havok Reed: loving your pose man!

penciltipred: great idea for those arms, liking that lava.

NickyBeats: reminds me of wonder women, some rage in your pose its great.

DNVN: i like number 4 personally id even make her float and have lava dance around her, i know
its been done tons but hey maybe you could elevate it??

Agrifex: yours is pretty dark, i like the one with the yellow cracks over the face, a dynamic pose
maybe hunched over will make it creepy and intimidating.

delightful_piffle: 3/4 rule unless you make the volcano a dress??

Rusa: try and get basic shapes out first, i think use color later its detracting, image your doing
a pencil drawing, the cool thing about photoshop you can decrease the opacity and add another layer on top
and its like tracing paper. :-)

a bunch of hours in im gonna take a break and lurk :-)
again i apologies for the nudity, the lower half im thinking of doing some Armour??

Oh I agree. The problem is when I save it as a JPEG, things get darker and more saturated. My monitor is definitely not configured correctly. When I get closer to finishing I will post again and hopefully it's not as saturated.

    Pele WIP 2

Added her knees then accidentally covered them up again with lava, Doe! Ah, well, I'll fix it later. That's enough for today XD

This is my first time posting anything anywhere here, so forgive me if this doesn't work out right the first time.
I've been meaning to participate in ChoW for sometime, but after seeing the theme for this week I couldn't pass it up. I'm not quite sure which of these three compositions to go with; constructive criticism is very welcome!

I'm excited to see everyone's finished works, theres some good stuff going on here ^_^

This is my first submitted ChoW, super excited! Had an original idea for a stone golem like creature but then re-read the brief. Note to self, read brief properly before I jump head first into painting...
Anyways, here is my submission so far

    WIP 4

Almost done, I will finish it today after my morning class. I need to redo her legs, they just look funky. I also desaturated it, so I hope it shows up how it looks on my monitor. I really should get around to configuring that.

Hey, really busy this week but I will try to get an entry in. Playing with the idea that she can create and destroy. She's raising up from the lava and creating life with the left hand although i need to work on it as it just looks strange and a bit stuck on. any one any thoughts?

Mouzzi - That is damn awesome! But, when I first saw it read as if her body was facing away, with her top half turning to look behind her. It might just be me or something with the shadows.

really struggling with this one.. i don't even know if i'll manage to churn up anything interesting til the deadline. my main issue is i can't come up with something original , it always irrimediably goes back to being a lava woman of some kind i don't even know if the current try is even ok for the guidelines of this week chow: mainly because i'm not sure she's immediately identifable as hawaiian?
but anyways you guys are doing an awesome job :0 i'm expecially looking forward to see sytrex, MasterTroglodyte, mugentaichou and Pixeltuner's pele finished!
