    Gerard D'Albon High School Portfolio

Hello! I'm an 18 year old high school senior and I'm currently applying to a bunch of art schools in hopes of stacking up the debt and being a starving artist for the rest of my life! Applying to SVA, VCU, MICA, Ringling, CCAD, SCAD, CIA, and Purchase. Hopefully I get a few scholarships...

    WOW.

I don't think you'll be a starving artist at all!!! You'll definitely get in everywhere or pretty damn close I think! Your watercolors are BEAUTIFUL!!

You're already better than half of the people who I went to college with. Best of luck to you! Apply for all the scholarships you can.

    Thanks everyone

Here's a few more quick watercolors I did today. I'm trying to put together a sketchbook page as one of my portfolio pieces, and just throw stuff like smaller watercolors, figure drawings, observations, etc. all on it

Hey Mr. Big Cheese, Your work looks very strong. One of your landscapes/ architectural remind me of this artist Roland Becerra and or Susan Stephenson. Check Rolands stop motion films on you tube. Roland Becerra "Dear Beautiful". He was at Canne film festival. Amazing painter.... good luck

Haven't got information from all my school about money, but I got into all the schools I applied to and currently got 60k to SVA, 50k to CCAD, 35k to SCAD, and 88k to CIA but SVA is still my main choice I think.

That's great, congrats to all of your acceptances! You definitely had a strong portfolio and for your age especially.

Man I wish I had your dedication at 18! I let myself flounder for far too long..

Your stuff looks really great. Don't see why you'd want to go to art school though. Why throw tons of money that you don't even have yet and years of your life away for something that you are obviously already very good at and can learn just as easily on your own with books and a lot of practice.

EDIT: Gosh I should have read the rest of the thread, I didn't realize this was from February. Congratulations on all your acceptances

    ---

This is an awesome portfolio for entering art school. Great house paintings especially. I agree with PhanTom that you could probably self-teach the parts that are a little weaker in your work, such as perspective, values and facial anatomy. Just frequent libraries and grab some good books, online resources and maybe get a private mentor. College can be helpful for learning the business side of things though if you want to go into making commercial illustrations. If you're set on going to art school I say just keep up what you're doing and you'll have no problem entering somewhere, and they'll help you with the rest. Great work!
