EOW Round #203: Probe Arriving at Gliese System

Topic: Probe Arriving at Gliese System
    suggested by xbert

This week's theme will focus on a celestial/space environment where a probing aircraft or a general vessel is seen arriving at Gliese, a planet system surrounding a red dwarf. I figure it's been awhile since the EOW has went intergalactic. Strap in!

Please post your finals in the "Final Burning" thread which will be set up before the deadline.

So the idea is to paint a straight up planet system? No space stations or nothing?

Hi everyone! Great sketches here already!

Maybe I misunderstood the topic, does the "celestial environment" means like a planet environment too, or it could be only something in space?
Anyway, here's my really quick sketch. If it't not relevant to the topic, I'll try new one.

Flame_Unquenchable : liking those colors. i would go crazy with stars in the background/atmosphere.

so after a sleepless night and countless wasted hours trying to do simple functions in zbrush like hard surface shape rendering, which seems impossible.
i switched to a different program, with some basic knowledge i did this in less than an hour.
    basically copying my previous design. . . . . .

Last week I found a really cool planet making tutorial on 3dtotal http://www.3dtotal.com/index_tutoria...splay=2&id=547 and thought i'd apply the technique here and see what I could come up with. It feels like a cheat but people use textures and brushes all the time, so as a secondary element / base to work on, it could be useful. What do you think?

Really basic spaceshit. I just felt like I had to get all the normal stuff out of my head as I haven't done any space scenes before. Not sure if I'll continue this one but figured I'd upload it anyway. Really quick wip.

Hey! This will be my first EOW, and I am loving all the wips! It's so inspiring to see all the awesome art in this place!
So here is my wip, and so far it's just the background. I'll bring a ship into the picture tomorrow. Any critique or advise is so appreciated!

Might just do a more regular environment if I have the time. I'm having hard time with this type of stuff. I totally forgot about the probe.

Lionsketch, I like your idea - it seems to have an "exploring" vibe to it, which is good with this contest. I don't know exactly what makes it feel that way - maybe the fact that we are looking out on this (currently) desolate landscape, and the probe is moving INTO it?
