    Lerlornar (finally) begins learning

    Hello

I have been trying on and off to try to draw, starting from four years ago, and I always felt that I haven't been doing anything. I believe that I've been paralyzed with perfectionism, and have always gone on drawing nothing and dreamed of drawing much for substitution.
So, here I am, years later, without anything done.
A friend introduced me to this forum, and I was really inspired again to draw, and instead of just dreaming to draw and moaning, I am taking the initiative to go ahead and finally draw and not be afraid of mistakes.
So, here begins another person in a crowd of people who wishes to draw.

    Jan 30, 2013
I started using Loomis's Drawing the Head and Hands, and just at the last moment, I noticed that he asked me to only draw the reference lines, and not the cheekbones, jaws, blarg.
The final page are drawings done with reference, and I tried to find the proportion that Loomis showed in those faces.

EDIT: I'll reupload the resized pictures later

I'm having a bit more trouble with the planes and where exactly everything fits. I may be putting the cart before the horse by rushing too fast without good fundamentals.
I'll address that problem today by going back and figuring out proportions of the jaw, etc.

Also, whoops. I didn't know pictures would be that big when I uploaded it. Can anyone tell me how to resize the picture within the forum? It takes a bit of time resizing the pictures on my computer. For now, I'll have to upload the giant sized pictures.

EDIT: I'll reupload the resized pictures later

Feb 1: I started drawing the eyes and nose yesterday. I really enjoyed drawing the eyes. If only my skulls came out the same way.
Also, I started doing the 60 seconds gesture drawings. I did 60 today, and I'll upload the first and the last pages only.
I'll practice getting the basic head shapes down today.

Mosen: Yep! Thats why I'm trying to work hard to get this sluggish ball rolling. I hope that you'll do great in your journey also

Madgrav: I know right! There's just too much to learn, and too little time in the day, and I'm not sure if I even learned these things properly or not! The only thing I can do is to work hard and.. somewhat smart.

Feb 2: I looked at another source on getting the form of the skull right using the 'Loomis method', and I think it was much easier to understand that one. I started drawing the skulls, the eyes, and the noses, and tried to see the form. I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly, because the forms are hard to apply on a face without a reference, but of course, practice is the only way to go
Also did 60 - 60 sec gesture drawings, which I hope I'm doing them correctly.

I'll start practicing drawing faces today, and possibly try studying values/colours with the wacom.

The placement of the features will definitely come with practice so keep going! I think the Loomis method is one of the best ways to go, try and think of the head as a 3d form as that may help a bit. Good luck!

SophieW: Thank you! I'm going to try to look over and practice the forms a bit more. It does seem like my shape visualization needs more work, and also thinking before putting down the line

Feb 3: A few gestures and a few faces. I didn't get much done unfortunately, but all the more reasons to practice harder today!

I plan to practice values today with reviewing face forms.

Feb 4: First day trying out painting with wacom. Took waaaay too long trying to set this thing up. I got one apple painting done, which I had fun with. I think I need to get much more practice getting used to colour, as I had much trouble finding out what colour was on the apple, and I will have to get some grayscale studies done also. I'll get more stuff done today when I get back home from uni !!

This is nice for just beginning with a tablet. I like that apple. I need to make few of those today. Lizard is cool too. Did it take long?

MadGrav: Thank you : D! I'm not exactly sure how long it took to do both of them, but I believe it was something like 20 minutes for the line and 40 minutes for the values. I think I need to work on blocking the values in quicker and working with them : P.

Feb 6: Again, not much done today, wish there would be less school work, but we're nearing midterm time right now and the professors are really stacking things up for me : P. Oh, well, it just means I have to make more time for myself and work hard.
Done some gesture drawings and value/line. Again, I have to learn more about blocking the values better and seeing them for what they are instead of intuiting the process.
