    I thought to improve my drawing skills I should also start one of these sketchbooks. Here are some sketches for a little shooter game I was working on the last couple of days.

    c&c is very welcome.

    !pictures from the original post are now in the my second post!

    Hey there. Welcome!

    I may suggest looking at some of Feng Zhu's stuff, to see how he approaches designs of this sort. Yours seems a bit random. Take a look HERE and then OVER HERE for a fuckload of video tutorials. If you haven't seem them before, it's a gem.

    Thanks man. Feng Zhu's video tutorials are really amazing, but right now I think I need more practice to get it right. But you are totally correct that my designs look random, have to change this.

    Any advises how I could get rid of this randomness?
    Should I just use one basic shape as a basis for my design to start with?
    Or other things?

    and beause I totally suck at drawing females I did some female head studies today. I used photo references depicting the same person, sadly my drawings aren't depicting this person at all.

    @Olothontor
    Thanks, yeah I normaly try to keep it rather simple but mostly because of my lack of ability to create details
    I have to train that part a bit more, while still keeping it simple and readable.

    Here are some sketches for a 3D Challenge over at GameArtisans.org. The goal is to model a Luchador.

    and the final concept:

    I have also done some more of the female head studies and I have so many problems with eyes, proportions, the 3/4 view and the nose:

    i think your making great progress! (and your female portraits do not suck, the are looking good and with some more practise i think they will look great! ) and the goal doesn't always have to be photorealism and looking exactly as the model, in my opinion a face that looks alive is much more impressive

    if you haven't already seen this guy i think you might find this helpful great artist and very helpful tutorials.

    @Fetscher
    Thanks for the encouragement, photorealism isn't even what I'm looking for but sometimes I feel like that my pictures could benefit from some textures/details. For the heads, yes practice is really what I need the most and that's my hope in conceptart.org to get me motivated for more practice

    Proko is really great, have watched all of his videos, but watching alone doesn't help Will use his videos next week for some special exercises to get better with eyes and noses.

    So, and here is some sketches from yesterday and more studies from today:

    Couldn't tell you a lot about design, I'm in the process of learning that myself. I'm having trouble designing things instead of painting them out. It's damn hard. I couldn't tell you more than what's in Feng's videos. Don't forget to find reference too, see how other people tackled the problem and have fun with it ;]

    Yeah, you're right it is damn hard but at least I had fun doing them.
    Using references is something I really need to integrate more in my work.

    Alot of work going on here. Keep pushing the studies out! And keep up the hard work =]
    I would recommend however to do some basic stuff like you done for your head studies, I think it could benefit your designs.

    Studies are definitely things I have to do more often now. I neglected those in the last years to much. That's why my visual library is full of dust. Have to remove this dust and fill the good ol' library up with some new stuff.

    Your designs are nice, i really like the linework, the clean aspect and the finish.
    But sometimes i think there is no variation of curve and straight line, all the shapes seem to circular, to smooth.
    Try alternating them.
