    Coldworks WIP topic

    Hello,
I once had an account here years ago, but I totally forgot the account name, password, email address linked to said address and pretty much everything else.

Enclosed in this post is the current status of my latest WIP project.
The goal of this work: total detail overload.

Right now I'm still working out the general structure of this guy, and because of the following, I haven't even really decided where I want the light source for this guy to be.
    - still not sure about the terrain I'm going to use for a background
    - characters will have several light sources of its own.

    Completion status: around 5%

It's something I decided to keep in my WIP pile as a recreational piece, while I work on other, simpler stuff.

Still as extremely detailed as ever, and the use of red contrasts nicely with the metallic grey.

You probably should have decided where you wanted your main light source to be before you began shading and adding colours. Anyway, I'm not sure why you decided to do this guy first, then plop in a background after. My fear is that that the whole may end up suffering from lack of cohesion. It may be more worth your while to take what you have here as a rough draft, then rework it into another idea, keeping in mind lighting and background from the very beginning.

In terms of your goal, I think you hit your mark. There is quite a lot in there.

So, it has come to this.

One thing you may notice about me, is that for the most part, I'm not actually doing art as much as I'm designing.
Basically, this is something I wish to address at some point though.
That's pretty much the reason I decided to sign up at this place again, and will definitely be my focus for later WIPs.
Right now, my primary priority is mostly on 3D modeling for game design use.

For the background on this one, it's actually going to be more of these guys and a bunch of spaceships, just farther away, and possibly a space backdrop.
The scene I'm going for will be mostly actor oriented so to speak, and I kind of plan for these guys to somewhat BE the background.
I know, it's a bit of a silly idea, but I just wanted to see if I could make it work.

Well, for the decision on light source, the problem is that I've already changed my mind several dozens of times already, and the work as you see it now is mostly a result of me attempting to visualize my brainstorming process.

No crit needed yet, unless it's concrete advice to facilitate unwrapping.

Not exactly what I wanted per se, but I can definitely put this to good use at some point.
