30 min each. This might sound a bit corny, but today I learned something that changed the way I paint, at work! One of the artists showed me me how to use "pen pressure" when painting!

I finally understand (at least theoretically) how to "sculpture" in color when painting in PS!

A collage of what I did today. Feels like this "sculpture" thing is helping me a lot. When painting in PS you need to start with the dark colors, and then lighten up.

While drawing IRL I start out with line art, then add shadows to the while background, so when I paint in PS is "backwards" if you get what I'm saying.

1,5 hour. This took so much energy to paint. I had a concept in my head, and tried to get it down on paper. Started painting as soon as I got home from work, and when I was done I just fainted down in my bed #_#

But I do feel like I learned a lot!

My process now looks like this: I paint the first version, save it as a .jpg, open it up again, use "curves" to darken the picture and save it. Open it up again and start painting the light. Rinse and repeat.

I want to paint a "friendly zombie", while watching the movie "Savages". Documented the steps for you.

Looks like I focused all the energy on the teeth and mouth, not so much on eyes and the face itself, it looks to flat : /

Halo inspired doodles, a few minutes each, on the train.

Halo was my "first love" when it comes to video games. It's probably the reason I ever went to video game school and work with games today

Still battling health issues, but trying to draw at least something. I really feel the important thing is not to lose to much speed if I want to get any better at drawing and painting :3

Been drawing almost daily for three months now.

OMG, it's snowing outside and already December!

So I'm painting some snowy mountains First landscape ever!

I bought Andrew Loomis book "Creative Illustration" and reading it now. For the first time I'm approaching drawing and painting in a more conscious way, actually planning and thinking about the steps.

But this picture is shit, since I forgot to give the light a clear direction K_K

Found a sketch of a Halo 4 enemy (left upper corner), that I drew in my sketch book. Then I worked on some of my own robot designs (you know I love robots, right?).

After painting this I had no time to paint in one week due to health issues, work and then flying to Egypt for one week.

However, in Egypt I read Andrew Loomis book "Creative Illustration" like mad, taking notes and realizing almost everything I've been drawing or painting my entire life has just been guessing

I had a_lot_of problems with this one, made it based on a previous drawing I've done beforehand. Really had no idea what to do with the light or the metal surfaces.

It was fun to do nevertheless, and I learned stuff in the process, which really is the point of the whole "Learning To Draw"-project : 3

I did draw a lot on the train, when traveling between Stockholm and Malm÷ this New Year's Week. Not gonna post it all since that will take forever and there's a lot of crap.

Feel like I get better at faces, even if they are still cartoony, but I think it's moving in the right direction : D

This woman is made based on a drawing I made while riding the train. I was thinking of the Alien movies and Ripley

I love those slow paced movies where character development and setting takes time, where it's OK to show a scene for more than 5 seconds. Like "The Abyss", "Alien", "Terminator" and "Ben Hur".

Some real life studies of bell peppers I had in my fridge : 3
    Trying to:

    * LOOK at the colors, not guess. I should be looking more at the peppers than at my screen.

    * Light is almost never white, and shadow is almost never black.

    * WTF happened to the background...?

    * Where's the light, how does it bounce around the object?

Some studies if faces. Next I want to feel confident drawing the human face seen from the front. If I keep drawing the same thing over and over I won't learn anything new :7

Something from my own imagination, a small Fire Dragon! At first I was gonna follow some extensive tutorial for a fantasy image with a girl, but after a while I said "fuck this shit" and decided to just play away ; D

1,5 hours. Bananas from real life, and some kind of onion!
I try to paint mostly using values, really looking at the colors and hues. I need to erase a lot of what I think the world looks like, instead of "thinking" of it, I need to look at it.

Yesterday I decided I want to spend a lot less time on pages like Facebook and Twitter. Wrote about my feelings on my blog www.saracasen.com.

Practicing drawing faces from the front, all from imagination.

I'm still home, sick with the flu. Got 3 hours of sleep last night, rolling around in my bed derping with fever : / I've been home since last week's Thursday, and now I've come to that point when I'm slowly feel like I'm loosing contact with the real world outside, like I'm no longer a part of what's going on outside my apartment.

I wake up, it's dark outside, and a few hours later it's dark again when the sun goes down. I live so far up north, there's only daylight a few hours a day...I'm lucky if there's any sun at all.

I'm sure everything will feel better as soon as I'm done with this flu and back to kick some ass at work!

    I really hope so >.<

    Hey guys!

This time around I'm trying to focus on color by painting still life and things I find at home
Also, every artist knows that besides human skin, drapery is very hard to paint done right, so I'm practicing on these nice Magicka photos I found on their Facebook page ^^
    Thanks for watching

Really liking the Halo studies and the faces from imagination. You have clearly improved quickly! Keep it up but dont spend too long trying to polish a lot of your pieces, work on your paintings later and focus on one thing at a time. Keep it up Not sure if you do this but it's pretty nice to draw people on the train if you can get away with it,

In addition to what Jack said, I suggest you look into stuff that's lesser known for influence and inspiration.

    Hello Jack,
Thank you! Halo is very special to me, and after seeing some concepts of Halo 4 at http://autodestructdigital.blogspot.se/ I got inspired to create my own robots. Do you suggest that I do more quick studies? I do a lot of drawings based on people I see at the train, and as you say suggest it makes you feel quite shady. So I wait for them to fall asleep

    Hi Seraph,
Thanks for dropping by! I'm afraid I'm not really sure about what you mean. Are you suggesting that I draw more common stuff like pencils, cups and fruit? I get most of my inspiration for nature, music and hanging out with friends. I would be very happy if you could explain your feedback a little more. Thanks bro!

Experimenting today, just painting random stuff in different layers, mashing them all together and then do something nice about it. Also, a small photo-study of a tortoise + some color from imagination!

I too see some serious progression from the first to last page. Your pencil skills are visually improving as are your painting skills. I'm in a similar stage as you, where I want to work more with color, but think I need to draw more first. I might suggest the same to you. It's hard and kind of seems boring, but focusing on values and line and construction really makes painting easier(for me atleast). I still have far to go, and am not so confident, so my critique may be invalid, but just wanted to let you know I see your hard work, and progress and wish you the best!
