A litte of this and that...

Thank you for checking out my sketchbook!

I used to draw, but then life got in the way. Now I am straightening out my priorities and taking the time for art. Not just thinking about art and reading about art and viewing art, but actually the time to create something! In this first post are some drawings I have made in a last week or so.

I am grateful for any and all feedback.

The doll and the panda seemed like good friends with a similar outlook so I put them together. Pencil.

Thanks a lot for stopping by my sketchbook!

I think it's awesome that you dove right in with a permanent medium like marker - it adds a lot of honesty and immediacy to your sketches which is really refreshing! Have you ever tried creating hatching and cross-hatching that follows the form? It's a nice little technique that reinforces the volume of an object. There's a good example of what I mean shown in this little tutorial.

Hey, you seem to have a good eye for proportions and it's great to see you playing with all kinds of mediums.
In your pencildrawings you can add some more contrast, that would really make them better imho.

ClockworkLives, thank you for your kind words and your link. I read through the tutorial, and found it helpful. I'll definitely work on incorporating a few things from there, including turning the paper around so that the lines can flow more naturally and folllow the volumes better.

Harmageddon, good advice. I tend to see many subtle tones and not take advantage of the full scale of light and dark, so I am glad you pointed it out as something noticeable, so I can pay more attention to that. Thank you!

vscntkY, sorry, I have no idea what that means!

Like your stuff you draw, especialy the life studies.
But maybe adding more contrast, darker shadows and highligts/reflection could bring more life to your drawings!
Or maybe it's just the quality of wich u scan/photograph them, because them sure look better in real

    Keep them coming!

Deceptive, Thank you so much! And I agree with your critique. I tend to see a lot of variations in light and not go for the "punch" of really contrasted lights and darks. And yes, the last ones I posted were done on colored paper and I don't have the best camera, but I could definitely have used more white to make more contrast. Thanks for the reminder!

Here is another piece I did in charcoal a few days ago:
