    Roozard's Sketchbook

Size: 30.2 KBHello, my name is Jennifer. I'm 15 years old, from Germany and still going to school. When I woke up a few days ago, I realized that I was in the state of growing up and that in no more than 2 to 3 years I would have to face reality. That I could no longer continue to live comfortably and carelessly like I usually do. I would have to make choices if, where and what to study and so on.

I have been lurking CA for quite a while now and I will try to make my own sketchbook, in hope of getting myself to improve. I don't want to become a doctor, teacher, hobo or anything like that, but someone who is involved with either the video games or film industry. Something in that area at least. It may be true that I could start to take my art seriously when I start studying, but the realization made myself uncomfortable with the thought of not being good enough. I want to start as early as possible!

Also I find it interesting to see the improvement over the year's in other sketchbooks and hope I can look back one day and see how much I have (hopefully) developed.
I'm not very good at the moment, my style reminds of manga (my early influences) and cartoons rather than photo realism, but let's see how it will go! Here you get a few WIP's and a finished work and randoms sketches.

Very nice! The color work is awesome; the tear looks marvelous not to mention the Ezio. I'd say keep it up. The studies are nice and the rendering is catching.

Wow, someone else the same age as me Great work.
FEEDBACK: You need to starting trying different types of faces, I can see a common structure (big nose, weird shaped head) links with too much of 2D, almost cartoony.

@karanveer: thank you, I'm working on it!
@HaoningW: that's cool! and thank you, you're right, way too much manga/comic influence still left, I'll keep practicing, thanks

I'm back, I've been kinda busy with school and I read a lot of theory in between (Loomis, video tutorials, etc). So, here you have some loose sketches I made in class, trying to understand the head a little bit more. I'll try out 3D stuff too! (Sketches from the 2nd to the 15th in chronological order.)

I think you're doing well for 15! Keep going! Don't stop! I really enjoy the figure studies you are doing. More of those!! Draw a lot, you'll get better and faster the more you draw!

Really nice stuff in here! Keep up the studies and wow that you are only 15 years old - when I was the same age like you I only drew anime .. lol

I draw on paper I stole from school.

hi there roo! Didn't know you had a sketchbook!
I'd say, just keep working on those head studies, and practice different facial structures!

    Back

Whoa, it's been some time. I regret not posting more frequently, gotta do more! I'm 16 now by the way. Quick summary of the last months:

I'm telling myself now. YOU CAN DO BETTER. DRAW MORE. STUDY MORE. I really want to improve the next months, because I did not that much in the past months. I didn't get to draw much and I mostly drew in a more cartoon style. School is taking up so much energy. I'll try to post more frequently now! I'll post my frequent stuff today or tomorrow.

Nice stuff. Were not so far apart in age, dont feel like if you dont reach a certain level in 2 or three years thats bad, i used to think that way but it will only bring you stress. Now that being said its important to be motivated and you seem to have it so find solace in that and keep working and drawing every day, we've got a long way to go. I like your photo studies and you seem to have a nice command of color. Watch out with your proportions, remember the elbow reaches to the last rib, in some cases i've seen you elongate your arms and try to break out of that cartoonish/anime way of drawing the face (But dont forget it completely! its good to be able to diversify styles when you want ) Try a couple of photo studies of faces and draw a bunch of noses of different shapes and sizes from reference or from life to get yourself familiar with that structure. I love that last bird study, nice colors! Keep it up and keep your eyes on the prize.

@ Stephane: Thank you, I'll definitively try not to stress myself! Regarding the photo studies I think I will do a 100 faces or face parts challenge after I completed the bird one.

Didn't do much today as well, gym and school take up my time :'p On the weekend I'll draw nonstop I promise!!

Aaaahhhh!! I wish i would've been this great when I was 15. I really like your sketches and your faces look good. Colors are looking good too, if a bit muddy. Anyway, if you keep this up, you'll be damn good in a couple of years already. Can't wait to see where this is going : )

    IM ALIVE

So, after a long art slump I'm back and motivated. My 'art block' was so big that I actually felt like I would never get out of it, but I'm not giving up yet!
I hope I can be more involved and active now~

I've drawn a lot more the last few months, but these are the only ones I actually saved. And one from the new year I just made.

Great work and nice to see your joining the Teen Challenge, I think you should forget or stop thinking about improving as the main focus. I think this is the reason you have so many long gaps between updates. Youre thinking to much about improving and pushing yourself to much that it stops being fun after a while. So drop the fact that you think you HAVE to improve a certain amount in 2 years and draw because you like it and think its fun. Ofcourse you can push yourself a bit but never overdo it. I hope you can stay motivated now and update when you like but without 5 month gaps Youre already really good, so nothing to worry about. Good luck!

    -Dennis

Oh my goat, your values and figures look amazing already -- and you're so young!

Have fun, do lots of quick pose studies and try to post more here in the forums! Ideally, studying a bit every day is better than once every few weeks. (i'm guilty of this, oh well.)

    Lightbulb

Thank you guys! I just drew gestures and studies for 45 minutes and these are my results. A bit wonky I guess, but it's been some time since I've done that:
    1)Gestures
    Name: jan_gestures_60sec.png
Views: 59
Size: 529.0 KB
2)Here I tried to do the proportions and shapes, but 90 seconds seemed to be too short for me to lay them down.
    Name: jan_gestures_90sec.png
Views: 66

3)At 120 seconds I still had trouble, but in the end it got bit better when I focused on putting down the basic shapes first.

I see you'll get some jealous looks! so young and so good! But never forget about the fun part! Do what you like most and do some studies inbetween. No need to do studies all the time. You are already on a good way if you keep going =)

Awesome studies! I think comparing those to your first posts' sketches and WIPs already shows a lot of improvement in the figure's weight distribution and movement.
