The bar was pretty quiet last night, so I worked on just one drawing. Here it is:

    Thanks, Zakknroll, for stopping by!
I highly recommend it (public drawing), Pavlov! It's sometimes surprising what you end up with when you draw on-the-spot.
You and be both, iven. I love those drawings where the artist can control their hatching so masterfully... I've got a ways to go!

This is some sketching I did on two different nights recently. Hope you all like it!

    Hello CA.org!
A series of posts seem to have been deleted, about a month ago, when the CA.org site was reset. I'm going to recap, if that's okay.... I think this is about what was here...

Sketching at my local bar: April 29th, 2013:

Train Sketch from 12th of May, and drawing at the bar on the 14th of May:

Back on the train in the afternoon on May 29th:

The pool table in the back room of the bar on June 17th. This is where Leonardo DiCaprio gets his hand smashed in the movie The Departed, by the way:

Gestures of a couple of friends playing pool that same night:

Playing and listening to music (these were two different guys playing the guitar - they handed it off back an forth between them.)

This is what the Biggie Sketchpad that lives on my drafting table looked like last month. These are all 15 minutes sketchy copies from the book Wizard: The Best of Basic Training How to Draw Vol. 1 . Loads of fun!

And this was a night at The Central Bar on June 24th:

Those are the highlights from the last couple of months, anyways.

    Hi, CSA.org!
I've been taking a Visual Design class this summer, and one of our assignments this month is to design a logo. Here see my attempt at two variations:

I really like your out door sketches, most of my sketches are done outside.
I am always sitting somewhere and draw people, my hole sketchbook is full
    of Toronto Safari sketches.

Hi, iven! Thanks for checking out my sketchbook. I sure have fun doing it. I haven't done any public sketchings recently, sadly. I have to get back to it!

    Perspective Studies 1/30

I hope to do 30 perspective study sessions, in just over as many days (work schedule won't allow for every-day, unless we're unreasonably slow...) I'm starting with Ernest R Norling's Perspective Made Easy. It's a great book; it starts out really simply, though. My thoughts are that if I duplicate all his diagrams, and spend time with each stage, I'll absorb the information permanently. (didn't realize how long it takes to recreate textures like sea water and grass lands, though...) Later, I plan to use the info to create some original samples/practices, But in the first chapter, its all concepts and terminology.

Here is the result of my first work session. I spent... just under 3 hours on these, off-and-on, at work on Sunday night / Monday morning.

    More Train Drawing!

It's amazing - I'm not feeling the least bit self conscious these days drawing on the train, and I have a big 8.5" x 11" book, too...

I LOVE your Sketchbook!! I am going to have to follow it!

I really like the designs you made in update #40, I think they, especially the last one, would make excellent and interesting tattoos. I love anchors!

And, I must say, you started your CA Sketchbook on my birthday! Hahah.

Thank you so much for stopping by my sketchbook and posting; I really appreciate it! I love love love that watercolor eye study you did; it's absolutely gorgeous. I'm loving how your life drawing just brings me back to sketching on the subway when I was back in LA: beautifully rendered and I can feel the atmosphere of emotion (especially in the sleepy rider page!). Your nautical celtic designs are very nice! Anchors are such a symbolic image that I can really resonate with (I can also resonate with that harp. I feel like having a Guinness now!)

Click it and make me happy (or sad, both are welcome and appreciated)!

AdrienneRose: You're so active in the CA community, and seem to work so hard- I'm touched you like my sketchbook . Thanks! Happy (belated) birthday!

sknawt: Thanks, man. I like the sleepy ones too - must have been a good morning . The original reference for that eye was from an public domain book called "The Human Figure" by J.H.Vanderpoel. I downloaded the PDF for free from the Internet Archive. You can get all sorts of old, crazy stuff from there.

It's good that you guys see the Harp-Anchor-Celtic Cross designs as tattoo possibilities, 'cause that's exactly what they were! A friend was trying to figure out what he wanted, gave me "Irish Harp," "Celtic Cross" and "anchor" as things he may have wanted to incorporate, so I'd worked up some ideas.

Thanks for checking out my sketchbook!

This is just some doodling from my ride home today. Not the greatest, but it shows that I've been moving those pens around for, like, two weeks now, and I feel great about that!

fabulous stuff, as usual. I've been walking to work lately and become such a slacker on the life drawing >.<
Refillable water colour brush pens might be up your alley - they can be a bit of a pain to find, but you can water down the ink to what ever consistency you like - it's really good for quick washes and building up tones.
Love the ABC logos too, super cute.

Awe man, thank, Rhubix! I remember a school friend having one of those brushes - with the water in the handle, right? She was ga-ga over that thing. Great idea: I'll keep it in mind when next I'm buying art supplies, thanks!

These are my next little doodles. The Dino is a plastic little dino that is currently residing on the top of the register at the bar. He has a name, but no one could remember it . I have some gestures of friends playing pool, but they're not much more than scribbles - they only hold still for, like, 2 seconds at a time!

Classes start back up next week... hoping to keep up the drawinks!

Some daily sketchin' on the train, and the "light Separation study" that I'm going to submit to the "Spartan" thread once I have all of the gestures completed.
