    Letty's Sketchbook

    Hi everyone!

I've been lurking around for almost 6 years now, drooling myself checking all the amazing sketchbooks in this forum. I love concept art and I wish one day to be able to do it.

I started drawing when I was around 10 years old but it was something that I never persisted in, only when I was in the mood for it (which was a rare moment) or in the days that I couldn't go out to be with my friends. And then I started studying arts in highschool, which I finished this year. I'm 22 now and i want to go to arts university when I get the money for it.

I'm awful at drawing human figures and anatomy, I struggle alot with proportions and drawing from imagination seems an impossible task for me, so I finally had the courage and started this sketchbook in hope that you guys help me to overcome my difficulties. So feel free to critique me hard!

Enough chatting! Here's a couple studies i've done and my very first attempt in drawing at photoshop (damn I'm terrible at it )

Hi and welcome aboard Letty. It seems that you have a real good hand for hatching. Your different studies just goes well for start. If you want to improve try to focus on something that you want to improve, like dimensions, shapes, lights and shadows, perspective, and so on. Don't give up, you are doing really good.

@ Lucarky: Thanks! Lately i've been focusing on shapes, to better understand how things are.

For now, some perspective i've done while in school and another drawing.

And the 2nd portrait i've ever done. Quite happy with the lines and the construct of the face, seems pretty much the person I wanted to draw. But have to work about hairs and shadows...

Hey, this is a great start!

I love the building studies in #9 and the sketches of your cat. Lovely clean lines and attention to detail and light in the first, and lots of personality in the second.

Like others have said, keep practising. You're doing great.

Also, drawing things around your house is a good way of learning how to see and translate shapes and how they appear in three dimensional space. So don't be afraid to draw anything and everything.

Just browsed through your sketchbook, and I'm very impressed. I really like your digital studies and your animal drawings (that dog looks awesome!) I would really like to see some more of your digital work as it looks really promising to me.

    Keep up the good work!

Ok, managed to upload a file! Woho
These are photo referenced and took me about 1:30h each (too long in my opinion, but i guess it's nothing that pratice doesn't fix?) Still working in some more of these, will post when I finish them all.

It's been quite a long time since I last came here and alot have happened in life but still managed to find time to draw a little bit (not as much as I wanted to..) I'll leave you with a compilation I did of Obelix's cute dog, a better image of post #16 and a still life I made yesterday.

A nice improvement on one page. Keep up the work and post more - pencil miles count a lot. I love the jug in the grape picture.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

A really good start to your sketchbook. There seems to be a good variety of subject matter here, and if you continue with your practice then your overall understanding will develop. There will be times when you may feel this is not the case, but stay with it. All the best.

@ Black Spot: Thank you! I got more time to draw now so will try to keep practising and posting. Also love how the jug ended up.
@ JohnPrince: Indeed, practice makes perfect, although I'm quite far far away from perfection xD But thanks mate, I do draw everything I see and challenge myself, being out of my confort zone makes me feel that I wont be able to improve but I know that's not true.

Tried to use photoshop on the environment I've made from head but finding it quite difficult. Meh. C&C are welcome... PLEASE!

Hey, Letty nice studies. I think you're on the right way. If you can, you should attend some life drawing classes. Keep this up, it's certainly getting you forward.
