    Red face n00b-tacular!

    Hey all,

I am new here and excited to join the CA community. I am not a professional (or even formally trained, for that matter), but illustration has been a passion of mine since I was very little. I really just wanted to start a sketchbook thread here to use as a creative outlet as well as to hopefully get some feedback from this awesome community! Having never really taken any classes or training, the feedback I get from this thread will probably go a long way for me. I am going to start with a pretty big dump of random stuff I've thrown together recently. Please let me know what you think -- I am a total newbie so please forgive me ahead of time for any newb-like faux pas I will probably end up making.

p.s. I lack a scanner at the moment, so I apologize for the crappy quality iPhone pics.

really interesting stuff! I would recommend doing some anatomy studies to get proportions down a little better.

[Aether Technician] - Thanks a lot for the feedback! I will definitely focus more on anatomy studies.

Here are a few more sketches...

I really like the start of this man very free flowing! Id like to see some life drawings and possibly a more complete piece?

[Arteast] Thanks a lot! A majority of my work is done in coffee shops, so finding life to draw from shouldn't be a problem

I just got a wacom tablet and I am trying to figure out how to use it. I have a few drawings/paintings I will share on here. Ultimately, I am trying to learn to paint...but I have absolutely no clue where to begin. I am starting with online literature but it is hard for me to get any reliable direction from it. So, I am really just using the trial & error method. I am feeling more confident up until the blocking phase, but beyond the blocking, I am at a loss -- I imagine next would be values, then rendering, and then details to finish. Tutorials (videos or image-based) would be greatly appreciated too! Thanks a lot for the feedback thus far!!

Here are my attempts with the new wacom:

Another update. Still working on figuring out my new wacom. I am trying to learn how to use values as well. I used some pics of Greek busts as reference.

Just a small update. A doodle I did from a cafe near me. Pardon the crap image quality; still no scanner and I'm a shaky-handed photographer.
