    Conversation with Smaug

I did this as a part of Fanart Friday (it's my loose version of the original Tolkien painting, which is why I chose the odd "invisibility" effect), where I try to make a quick-ish painting during that day, but this specific one has fundamental problems that I'd really want to work on (as well as things that I now see, like the pot perspective *shudder* and the form of the jaw that changed too much during painting).
Basically it just doesn't have the feeling of perspective or depth that I tried to do (that the head would be looming over) and I'm not exactly sure where's the problem. Is it the values, the colours, should I have exaggerated the head perspective more or is it the inconsistency of the floor perspective or just... all of the above making it not work? Did I accidentally stray too much from the sketch?
Obviously all other crits are more than welcome too.

It took me a sec to find and read Bilbo. Without the title, I might not have worked it out.

The only thing that strikes me, Smaug's upper lip is puffy and camel-like. That's a kind of goofy look for a dragon.
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).
