    What am I doing...

    Hello
    I'm a 19 year old aspiring animator. I've been watching things on conceptart for a while and decided to make a sketchbook here.
    Join me in the process of making a portfolio for a university.
    Some of my latest pieces.

    EDIT: Changed sketchbook image to represent my current style better. You can find my first post stuff on my second post below

    hello. Welcome. I love the first two drawings. It seems as if they're strait out of an animation. storywise.

    Your work is absolutely stellar. I love the overall style, you're fairly good with value, and most of all I like the visual storytelling.

    If there's some advice I would give, it'd be to practice with color. To me it seems like the weakest aspect of these images, although, there's so few with color, that it's a bit hard to tell.

    @choopcheek Thanks man : )
    @Wuggy Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I need to work more with colors. I always start with a value stage and often leave them as they are because I like a good greyscale piece. Maybe that's just my procrastination in action haha.
    Awesome work yourself, by the way. Keep going at it.

    More or less finished with the values. Don't know If I'm putting colors on this one.

    Cartoon scribbles

    I've been doing value speedpaintings and a lot of life drawing (that will be posted) lately and I'm trying a change of subject. Gotta work on character body language.
    I like doing expressions, you always end up doing the same face in real life without noticing haha.

    It's been a while since the last update. Long story short: my laptop's hard drive broke and I almost lost all my data and images. Got a big scare out of it.
    Here are some red pencil sketches. It's hard to take photos of roughly 50x70 cm drawings so bare with me.

    I'm taking a different approach concerning life drawing.

    Beautiful style and gestures. The anatomy is solid. You can tell that your line is going towards animation

    @Cojac Thank you , you have good stuff yourself. A painting a day is an ambitious goal. Keep going at it.
    @MeteorCat Thank you . You have an amazing work output rate. I see improvements. You're on the right track ; )
    @andyWEASEL Thanks . I try very hard to portray believable expressions.

    Here are some figure sketches done in Sai and a piece I finished today.

    Here are a few sketches I did these past few days. Not much time to do a proper piece, with the holidays and whatnot. Happy holidays, by the way!

    @Mabelma Thank you

    I'm drawing a lot of traditional pieces lately and It's hard to take photos of them all, fix the lighting and all that.
    It's easier to post digital stuff right off the bat so, I've put my brain on 'pause' and decided to do a self portrait in Sai. It's my best self portrait yet, in terms of resemblance.
    The portfolio deadline is just two months away, rage-draw mode engage!
    You can tell I look tired as hell.

    Great cartoons! I also like this last self portrait. Great improvement overall, specially your human figures, the gestures in the beginning dont look as confident as the cartoons. If I can make a suggestion, when observing the figure, use them swooping lines

    I love your 1 min gestures and expressions. Keep it up!
    Maybe something you can work on is having a wider range of values in some of your more refined pieces.

    Have a happy new year guys!

    @SarSengo Thank you and yes, I need to loosen up even more.
    @Optera Thanks, I will. Gotta get rid of any trace of fear and go full out.

    Here are some figure drawings. First one is from December 18 and the last one was made on January 1st. I want to do one of these daily.

    I wonder for how long CA will be up again.
    Here is the update on my daily figure drawing. Gonna start polishing works more and more, the deadline is near and I need to finish my portfolio soon. >:C

    Hey, thank you so much for visiting and commenting in my sketchbook!

    I'd like to start off by saying that I am really impressed by your sketchbook. Everything you do has great energy to it and I love how well you are able to draw expressions. I also really like the color atmosphere of your landscapes. Post #15 is definitely my favorite so far. Everything from the linework to the character expressions just works so well. Your figure studies are also really great and I just love how you did the hatching on them.

    If you're feeling burned out then I don't see anything wrong with taking a little break. It could also be that perhaps you haven't been drawing for fun lately? I get that feeling too if I've been working on too many studies.

    I hope to see more from you soon. Take care!

    Loving the way you draw these characters and the use of line! Really shows their emotions.

    I also like those figure drawings, especially the last one in red. The way you shade the models is just beautiful

    @Viconia You're welcome and thank you for the kind words . For me, the overall mood of a piece is essential for it's 'success'.
    @AK_Guerrero Thank you haha . I like to 'paint' with pencils.

    You'll see further on in my sketchbook that I don't reply without updating some art.
    Made an experiment with my ink pen yesterday. Trying out different mediums to get out of my routine. Note: don't ink on cheap printer paper like I did.

    @Elias Leonard Thanks

    Haven't posted for a few days. I've been busy with the portfolio and all.
    I want to know what you guys think of what I have so far. Here's the blog where I'll be posting the portfolio : Portfolio
    There are drawings in the 'life drawing', 'drama/acting' and 'movement' posted so far. I have tons of other work waiting to be polished and posted there. I'll change the ones already posted too if needed.

    Update on my figure drawing. Getting really frustrated lately with the portfolio.

    First one was done on Jan 12 and the second one on Jan 18. Considering putting the second one in my portfolio.

    This was done today. I think it's portfolio material.

    People may get bored with the red figure drawings but hey, they're done in red pencil so...
