Topic: Pynok Angels
Deadline for Voting: December 13th, 2012.
- The creatures must be large aerial (winged) creatures
- The creatures live in a hot, humid environment with an abundance of organic vapor vents
- The creatures have some highly reflective portion of their body which may or may no create some kind of halo effect when struck by light
- The creatures should be beautiful, at least from afar

Concept: Pynok Angel
His head membrane reacts with the gas in the air creating something like arcs of lightning. This reaction gives him information about the density and flow of the air near him and he can then calculate the most adequate path to fly.
Not very happy with the result, had to do a lot of Color balance to approach something not awful and yet...
I can post the wip if someone is interested but it is quite messy.

Concept: Luciferase Pelacanus
From afar, the Pelacanus' glow appears to be attributed to highly reflective fish-like scales. The "scales" on the Pelacanus are actually similar to the small modified bristle-like scales of insect wings (species of butterflies) which are metallic in pigment and assorted in a variety of pigments. Thus, it should be noted why the Pelacanus can glow like a gold statue from one angle, but maintain a silvery-white from another angle, all the while appearing more fleshy than scaly.

Hi all, there is my Pynok concept art, i want to do something between a velociraptor and a seagull, the creature is very fast, and uses the vapor of the planet in his favor, ascending when using their wings to capture the vapor, and when they stop, descend and takes a dive like seagulls. they use the reflective wings to blind their preys and then kill them.

Wow... only three this week? I thought I saw a lot of work being done in the WIPs thread. I guess people had trouble meeting the deadline or something.
I voted for ricardrops because of the great rendering, clear design, and effective integration with the environment. Yours was the only design in which the creature actually looked reflective. The red and green color scheme was excellent for creating a shiny iridescent skin texture. I would have preferred to see more of the reflective aspect in the environmental painting and perhaps a brighter light source to accompany it, but the concept and execution was overall very strong.
Artka and hekatoncheir: your creature designs didn't feel as strong to me. Artka's wasn't detailed enough to show off its design, and hekatoncheir's design, with all its tassles, ornaments, spikes and flourishes seemed too arbitrary to me and less realistic (i.e. I didn't know how it would function and why its design lent itself to this particular environment). Also, both of your entries suffer a bit because they look more bio-luminescent than reflective. I'd recommend getting references for painting those kinds of surfaces in the future.
