So here's a little something I've been working on. It's in the very early stages, but I'm keen to get it right from the start. Plus, I'm going to take a quick break, because this is taking me longer than I care to admit. Maybe I need reference to help me along.
In any case, this is supposed to be a huge structure floating in the middle of the desert. Thing is though, sometimes it feels like I'm making one step forward and two back with these things. Anyway, let me know what you guys thing

Very interesting drawing. The colored one should maybe use the clouds to direct the eyes of the viewer towards the point(s) of interest. The bw one does this a bit too much. Make sure that contrast is higher in these important areas as well. ATM a flying debris is the second highest contrast bit of the image, I think the person on the block thing should take that role. The eye is drawn towards contrasty bits and the debris is taking attention away from your guy/robot. Also, blurryness is fine but it looks a bit fake, if you must have it make it "hand drawn" with textures visible from the tools you have used.
I think you should have more "debris" of similar shape but varying size floating around, with the ones further away being increasingly less contrastful/more hazy. It would increase depth, visual interest and visual coherence.
What's the narrative here? With that figure standing there with such a heroic pose, I can't help but feel like something epic is about to happen.
Keep pushing things.

First of, sorry but I'm so swamped with uni work and work work that i haven't been able to work on this anymore.
To answer your question Syle, the painting is concept art for our Make Something Unreal Live project (we're Team Diploid btw) and the idea is that the character is this little dude up there and starts off in a deserted world: white salt flats, deserts and random surreal blocks sticking here and there like giant jenga pieces. They float in the sky as well. The idea is that this tower is the only man made structure in the game world and the character walks towards it (think Journey). This is the moment when he is close to finding out what this game is all about! Meet his destiny if you will. I'm glad you find it epic, that's what I was going for.
PaleBluePixel, thanks very much for your suggestions, these are all quick fixes which I'll probably be able to do on the train tomorrow morning. Yup, the pitch is on Monday in London! Thanks again for suggestions.
Sorry matey but it doesnt look all that "Floaty" to me it looks more like something exploded! What are you using for reference materials for this?
Have a look at this stuff it was a google image search on "halo forerunner concept art"
I hope this can help with the development of the work, all the best.
