    The Power of Philosophy

    Hi Peeps,

CA.org was a big part of my early artistic development. I found that art informed my philosophy, and my philosophy informed my art. It's a beautiful cycle. Made this video today, and thought I would pass it along, hopefully to inspire each of you a little more upon the fearless search of being true to yourself.

I self-published a book on the fundamentals of drawing from life.

Other than my undergrad studies, most of my grasp of philosophy comes from Lady Gaga:

It's gonna be OK-- just dance. . .

Apart from epistemology, philosophy has about as much utility to me as the proverbial bicycle to a fish. Yet I keep on indulging in it. Perhaps it's addictive and should be banned.

Ha, the thread can be about philosophy as much as you'd like it to be.

As for the usefulness of philosophy, I suppose it depends on what you indulge. In that way, Thoreau has been my mentor..

I like philosophy a lot because it's never right, but always a search for the truth, or the meaning of what is going on. I mean, this thing we live in is intensely weird if you think about it. How many times have we all walked past someone and not even given a thought to the fact that they also have a subjectivity just like the one we each are? And its not even possible to prove, but we know its true.. There are so many strange things in life if you look for them.

But above all philosophy is useful because it requires and instills a critical mindset. Not a mindset of criticism as such, but a way of thinking that never thinks it has the answer. The world is so much more than the puny human mind can understand, and I'm not talking about god.

Has anyone here had that moment when you look around and realise how alien and strange everything is? How all the meanings and ways of thinking and doing are just constructs, and that we always perceive reality through these filters and distortions that mask and soften and familiarise? That all the beliefs and truths and statements are just interpretations, each as good as the next, and that what is actually there is beyond comprehension?

Anyway, it seems to me that life is a big mystery, probably unsolvable, but its fascinating to try..

Thanks for the thoughtful video. You mentioned a few points that are in the book "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg, so I definitely recommend reading it. I haven't finished it yet myself, but the first half of the book is a goldmine on understanding how habits work, and being able to backwards-engineer them to your advantage. I think that connects a lot with what you said about Barcelona being able to make quick decisions - once their real decisions were already made off-pitch, their habits took over and they succeeded.
