I like the poses of the characters, nice storytelling there. There are some problems in the composition though. I see the picture as being divided into two parts, one with the dragon, framed by the cliffs and one with the figures and the heap of bodies. I think the strong contour of the cliff between the dragon and the figure is unnecessary and breaks the connection between the two. Here's a very crude paintover of how the composition could be made to work without it:

I don't know if you meant to commit to them but the blocked in values look a bit confusing, the picture would have more sense of depth if they'd get darker towards the foreground, so at least the nearer rock being lighter than the cliffs looks weird to me but no doubt lighting will fix a lot.

    Great C&C smuli.

This is going to be a double page spread in a book. So I'm trying to keep stuff from being lost in the fold. That accounts for the two picture look. I do need to find a way to compensate for that fold yet make it look like one picture.

I'm not commited those values I just blocked them in for separation purposes.

    Early coloring stage.

In real life everything on this side of the rocks would due backlit. However we wouldn't see anything.

So I'm still deciding how to use my artistic license on this one. Suggestions are welcome.

Hello Nice job done here, really nice storytelling ! Composition is better, I agree.

I would just say about the centered human character, something looks wrong about how his body twist. I would change the arm holding the knife to follow the torso swing Or change the head orientation. But currently when looking at him I feel confused as I was looking at his back and not at the face front...

For the color, I feel it's okay ! It remember me a lot of the "old" fantasy/sci-fi drawing, so why don't play a little with backlighting to let characters appear while in a shadow ?

    Thanks Griffonnage for the comments.

The client has already approved the layout, so it's just inviting trouble and bad form to make that kind of change in the figure at this point.
