    ConceptArt Art?

Im not meaning to offend anyone by saying this:
Do you people who post all your talented illustrations on the forums or even the artists on the main page consider your drawings art? Although a very subjective topic really depending on ones definition of art, I would like to know what your definitions of art are and if you consider the illustrations on the forums just tallented drawings or actaul expressive art; if art has to be expressive at all. Is the modernicity of our illustrations still art or just talented drawings? Of course u can still argue its artistic for its creative and expresses the view of what the artist is attempting to convey... whether a star wars landscape an alien fighter.. i dont kno is it still art? The Mona Lisa is considered art in the eye of the world is that any diff? hmm im going off on a tangent.. il just leave it at that.

You can use the search feature of the messageboard to find reams and reams of discussion on this topic, but I think you should rather ask yourself, 'Why isn't such and such drawing considered art?' Better yet, make some great artwork of your own and share it with us.

If there was enjoyment in its creation, then it is art.

there was a large discussion about this a while back. just to let you know, you're bringing up a relatively unpopular opinion in these parts.

I dont care if it is your first post or your last, why would you come to a freaking forum that has art in the NAME, and start asking ppl if they think their posts are art. Everything on here is considered art, at least by its poster. Otherwise they wouldnt post it genious.

I consider any image I create, with intent, art.

But my definition of "art" is neither here nor there. If you need clarification, and I suspect, justification to define art or an artist before enjoying said images or creator, you're entriely missing the point.

    And on an aside, this...

i don't make art. i ruin good pieces of paper.

I think your over analyzing it all u should just pick up a pencil, pen, or a brush and create something! Art comes from within! "If I were an artist, I wouldn't paint" -ODD NERDRUM-

Welcome to the forums CJ. I am not sure if you questioning this site in hopes of finding out the validity of the artists who post here, or are simply trying to voice a negative opinion about concept art in general. Either way I think you will find the artists on this site more than competent to hold a discussion with you. Many of us not only produce art commercially (games, movies, ect.), but we also participate in the fine art /gallery world as well and we are aware of how they both influence society. We come from all different backgrounds, but our working processes and knowledge of traditional skills are very similiar. This site is about concept art, and we are open to whatever you feel your definition of that is. You are free to browse the forums. My advice: Post some of your work, and see what everyone has to say. And stop worring about what is and what isn't "Art". Just create it for yourself and let the rest of the world decide for themselves.
