Sorry, should have reduced the size of the image, I hate to scroll through an image, but perhaps you guys have huge monitors...
udonhead, thanks for the input. It's not a castle actually, but a rock formation. Guess I'll have to work on the readability of that more.
Here's where this piece is at after one hour more work today;
bene. since we are looking pretty much straight forward and not down i dont think you would see those rock structures reflected in the ice. other than that i am liking the sence of depth and scale
Can't wait to see the finals from this round!
Sketch from today, not sure if I'm gonna stick with it though.
heres what ive gotten to so far. hopefully ill put some value and maybe some color into it tonight and tomorrow.
Okay, well, environments aren't my strong suit, but hey, how could I resist? Here is a composition I settled on after doing some doodling... always loved the idea of a landscape dominated by sky, with bits of land floating about here and there... a cloudscape, perhaps.

Just the second week...this is going to be a great round...I say change EOW to EOM!!
I saw some geese flying over this morning going south...probably spain or so...thats 2500km!!
Brand new to this environment scene but really enjoying it so far; whether or not I'll stick with this idea I'm not sure
been doing some work
Another few quick thumbnail idea's to help me go into depth on what type of image i want
I tried to think up a quick plan for a bridge and causeway image
I think for my final piece ill go this kind of thing but I'll include depth to show the drop below the bridge
I was wondering if we are aloud to post our work for crits prior to submission?
Great jobs so far btw everyone, all looking really interesting.
This is what stage my painting is at after around 2 hours, i now need to add more depth into the background.
criticism would be muchly appreciated
Here is my entry of a long journey down a wooden bridge and then up a mountainas you can see
here is my entry. I'll probably be adding more to it, but would like some feedback based on the current piece.
Thanks, in Advance
Feel free to criticise

My final Image, I'm thinking of adding more depth to the background as it doesn't really show much distance
doug. i think part of the reason it doesnt show much depth is the level of saturation that your 'background has. those green colors are really potent and rich which will flatten out your image. looking into the distance in our normal world things tend to become less contrasty as a result of the air particles between us and something far away, which lends to a greyying out effect. generally as a rule objects and people that are closer to the viewer or foreground tend to have richer colors and higher contrast while things that are farther away tend to fade into the color of the sky as they near the horizon and have less contrast. in the case of your image i would think the red sky and the green ground would lend to a more greyish brown tone after the bridge and the yellow road would become a more muted orange. Another way to empahsize space would be do use your light source to create stronger shadow tones in your foreground. a final suggestion would be to change the color of the cliff face on the other side of the bridge. right now having a red cliff face and a red sky flattens your image.
still trucking need to figure out the sky/clouds etc and do some more work on the foreground and middle ground elements. basically im just need to work on it all more. if you have any thoughts or suggestions feel free to suggest away
cool entries so far everyone, here is my wip idea of a kid being sent to a temple/monkplace
