I only post it because people are seriously SELLING their ebooks with covers like that. I don't even feel like posting them on the thread. It'd feel like I'm kicking a puppy or something.

    EDIT: Ok, just one.

I got a feeling that most of those books got exactly the cover it deserved. And probably designed by the authors 16 year old nephew who is very good at drawing. For real.

My teacher who besides from teaching also worked part time as a graphic designer told me once that whenever she was hired to do a book cover, 9 times out of 10 she was given a large file full of stock photography to work with. She was free to do any design work or painting she liked but they were not prepared to pay her more for going the extra mile. So if this is common practice it's not really strange that so many bookcovers are extremely uninspired.

edit: Darn! I'm to busy to get stuck on that bad book covers site.

Although I did pick up a terrific quote.

On the movie posters, the Carrie poster is very different from the other horror movies that have been released the past few years.

I do think Dead Space's covers changed specifically due to the popularity of the game.

The first cover sells a new IP and tells new players a story, the sequel covers are showing off the design fans have come to know and recognize. The suit becomes a branding tool.

On the remake of Red Dawn, the original is awesome, but the new one is just saying "Red Dawn, but with these new people."

Those novel covers in Pychotime's first post aren't high-fantasy,sci-fi, or horror, and I think in the case of those title's they don't want art on the cover to influence the reader's imagination.
