    Karl's sketchbook training montage.

    Yo.

So I've been lurking around on this site for wayyy too long now. Finally knuckling down and starting a sketchbook here which I plan to update as regularly as possible, in the aim of improving my skills and levelling up as an artist. Any feedback/constructive criticism is more than welcome

Thank for taking the time to check out my stuff. Much appreciated.

    Here are some recent things:

Love your landscapes with the snow and the oranges rocks. Hot and cold, like a snowman drinking napalm. Work well

A little more contrast on your black and white and it's all good !

    Keep this up.

Here's a quick landscape sketch. Been trying out some new brushes that are a bit sharper.

Something a little different. Doesn't really look like it would work, but happy with the shapes and lighting.

Here's a small update on the mech painting. Fixed the cockpit area and increased the overall contrast a bit.

    Hey there! Awesome artworks.

I notice that you don't get a lot of constructive criticism or comments.. If I were more skilled than you I would've done that but unfortunately I'm not.
I came to conceptart.org for (professional) feedback but not really seeing a lot of it!
Just wondering what you think about it

Your mech stuff looks very neat by the way. I'm wondering, did you go to an art school or do you study by yourself?

Nemome: Thanks! Character design is something I need to especially work on. Plan to definitely put some stuff up soon.

Lychees: I guess how much your sketchbook gets viewed depends on how active you are in the forums. Just gotta keep on posting more stuff and will hopefully get more constructive feedback. I studied Industrial Design which was really great and you can apply a lot of the same design principles you learn to concept art. Didn't do that much character studies/colour theory though, so it's something I'm focusing on a lot now

Busy working on a drawing for my girlfriend's little brother's birthday. He loves both Star Wars and fantasy, so I thought I'd try combining both elements

I guess I'm a bit of a lurker, that might be a problem I shouldn't be so greedy, haha.
I hear Industrial Design a lot. I'll try to research it.
I just started at art school this year, never did anything like it before but have been drawing my whole life, so I shouldn't complain ;D

Also, just recently started learning colour theory, it's so interesting!

Erikly: Thanks! Gonna be uploading the finished thing soon

Lychees: If you haven't grabbed a copy already, check out James Gurney's book on colour and light theory. So incredibly helpful

Here are two quick sketches. Plan to take these into paintings when I'm back at my other computer.

Here's a christmas present I made for my Mom. It's of her dog Xena (warrior princess) who thinks she's 10 times bigger than she really is.
