    Rancree's sketchbook

    Hi, there!

I'm a 14(now 15) year old girl living in Norway who (obviously) likes to draw. I've been drawing for a long time, but the last year I have started taking art more seriously, and I started painting digitally in the beginning of 2012.
None of my friends are into drawing, and at the moment I don't even have art at school, so I have never really received critique on my work.
I would absolutely love getting any feedback and tips on how to improve.

I'll just start off by posting som recent practice.

    Watercolor painting from life:
    Name: Akvarell rose23.jpg
Views: 88
Size: 35.4 KB
I recently bought some watersoluble oil paints, and I much prefer them to acrylics and regular oil paints. First try:
    Name: Oljemaleri23.jpg
Views: 88
Size: 45.0 KB

I had fun with a white colored pencil on black paper. With reference.
    Name: Skann8_23.jpg
Views: 87
Size: 79.1 KB

    Digital painting from life:

    Attachment 1757362
Pigs, mostly with reference, and my cat:
    Name: Griser3_23.jpg
Views: 88
Size: 61.8 KBName: Griser2_23.jpg
Views: 87
Size: 59.2 KBName: Griser1_23.jpg
Views: 86
Size: 48.9 KB

    And lastly, without reference:
    Name: Jente med rødt hår23.jpg
Views: 86
Size: 30.2 KB

Please give me any critique and tips! I want to improve And sorry if my English is bad, I'm still learning

EDIT: Ehm...how does one make the images smaller? They're enormous... (edit2: resized the images)

From what I can see, your coloring is simply wonderful -both the rose(?) at first and the last portrait. What you should do though is applying theory -you did those skeleton sketches of the pigs, which is very good, but then you didn't use that knowledge to construct the other figures, which is probably why they are all too long.
And as for the images: In the program you're painting in you can resize them. (CA has no such feature so you'll have to do it manually)
But otherwise this is an amazing start! I truly wish I'd have been that good at your age :/

Please take a look at my Sketchbook! <- Comments are highly appreciated and returned C:

    Thanks for stopping by, Heyriel!
I see what you mean by applying theory, I'll try doing that.

Some more pigs. From imagination, followed by cute sleeping pigs from reference

    A few gestures from posemaniacs:

    And a study:

I still haven't figured out how to scan and resize the images properly...hopefully this will work

    Hello Rancree,
you seem to be very serious about art at your age! That is great. And you're already quite good!
My advices would be to construct your subjects with 3D forms and go away from Pose Maniacs. Better use photos of real people - or even better, work with real people. The models at pose maniacs are tricky, because their bodies don't react as real ones do and their muscles are just textures that can't follow the behaviour they should have. But still, doing gestures is a good approach.
Keep up the updates. I wish you good luck with your learning path!

First two from photos, third is a self portrait I did using a mirror. I found it really difficult, so the drawing is a bit off.

Some studies, because I really need to practice drawing feet. Also a random penguin, because drawing feet is quite boring

Study from a photograph, and a fairly quick self portrait that didn't turn out very well:

I've just been on a week's Easter holiday, so I've been drawing more than usual. Still not very much, but it's something.
    Gouache paintings from life:

A lot of sketches from life. Most of these are in pencil, but there are a few in charcoal too.

Also, a few crappy 60 sec gestures. I'm quite bad at gesture drawing, but I keep forcing myself to doing them now and then.

Just a few sketches without ref:

As always, any feedback would really be appriciated!

Nice start to a sketch book! Your pencil work looks really good and your digital stuff is coming along nicely. Just keep pushing work out.

    Thanks, chevy28360, I will.

The attachment manager has changed, and I couldn't figure out how to put the attachements in the text (makes me feel really stupid ) But anyway, I've been painting quite a lot in gouache, done some sketching in pencil and a little watercolor. Most of the paintings are from life, and the pencil sketches are mostly from imagination. The first still life is made with waterbased oils, and the second is gouache on black paper, which was a lot of fun!

Long time, no post. But my summer holiday has just started, and I'm planning on drawing more than usual. I'll hopefully also get into the habit of actually updating this sketchbook reguarly.

Nothing exciting to show, just some studies and messy sketchbook pages.

A little digital update this time. A Sargent-study and a study of my hand, and some digital sketches. I've got to stop sketching only girls, and actually try to draw some males too, because I think that's really hard.

Another Sargent-study, this one turned out really awful. Also, a sketch of a girl doing absolutely nothing (gotta start drawing people actually doing stuff). I was focusing on skin tones, and tried to apply what I'd learnt from the study.

Today was a rather productive day for me. It's nothing compared to what other people around the forums do, though.
First two studies, then a wip of an environment. I find environments hard to draw/paint, so I'm trying to get better at drawing them.

lool when i was 15, i was thinking pro illustrators were doing magic XD

    congrats you're doing very well

colors on your last studies are very good

for your pencil studies, seem you're going for a very clean drawings, don't worry to be messy in studies and do construction lines.

    keep up
