    Rookie's "SketchBook"

Hello I'm new here and hopefully I"ll be able to update this regularly to improve my drawing skills. Hopefully I'll keep this up atleast until the end of summer break.

I contrast adjust / sharpen / etc some of them becuase the lines were hardly even visible.

    Comments and Critiques much appreciated.

If you can't keep your paper flat then don't scan it in. It just doesn't look good.

Other than that, just keep drawing.

    MY SKETCHBOOK

I know it's all been done before, I want to do it again. I want to do it again.

Good to see you are working with loomis, great book. As he notes, draw alot! of ye own gestures, keep it loose and simple.

As many here gives the advise: Draw everything you see around you from life, tons of reference drawings and your own ideas.

You do look great so far, many more gosu than me ^^ so just keep it up and draw draw draw!!!

    Hey thanks for stopping by.
Yeah, looking around the forums loomis and bridgman seemd to be the two most popular figure drawing books. I was able to download Loomis from the web but wasn't able to obtain bridgman. Right now I am just copying pictures out of loomis and really haven't actually read much of it yet.

Well I was drawing this picture from reference and after awhile I noticed that I had gone longer than usual without erasing, so I decided to try not erasing at all throughout the whole thing. So this pic is from ref with no erasing, and as a a result some of it is seriously screwed up. But still in some ways it went somewhat better than expected.

steiner116: Thanks. Yeah I hear the loomis book is supposed to be pretty good.

digi-sketcher: Wow thanks for the link. I didn't know they had an art section there. I'm currently working on modeling that concept car in 3d, I think 3d is better for stuff like cars. Unfortunately I keep finding out that some of the surfaces in that sketch are not "feasible." It will be quite awhile before it is done, if ever...

Well here is what I got today. For some reason I had massive difficulty with this particular picture and I'm not sure why.

Well I've been drawing... but unfortunately most of what I've produced looks like doo doo and is not worth recording.
The only things that are somewhat worthy of recording here are these, and since they were never intended to be shown in the first place they are quite messy and scsribbly. I think I will try to go further with them though.

This is supposed to be George Bush. Any tips on how to achieve better likeness? And any tips in general on how to achieve facial likeness without direct reference?

This is supposed to be Itachi from the Naruto anime. I can't figure out what the hell those lines on his cheeks are supposed to be. Markings? Wrinkles? I've never seens wrinkles shaped like that on a person.

Also it turns out I will be quite occupied for the rest of the summer, and then it's time for school. So I won't be able to update regularly anymore. But hopefully I will be able to get a few in every once in a while.
