Character of the Week #304
Design a new sidekick for an existing super hero
DEADLINE: TUESDAY 30th OCTOBER 8PM GMT+1 (9PM British Summer Time)
Check your timezone!
Batman and Robin, possibly one of the most famous superhero duos. But what would happen if other superheros took on a sidekick? This week the mods would like you to take a well known super hero who fights alone and create them a helpful (or possible not so helpful) buddy. What are their special skills? What is their costume and their name? Remember that it has to be clear they are connected to their hero.
As a slightly different extra, we would like you to present your new hero sidekick final image in the style of a comic book cover, belonging to their super hero. For example an Ironman comic introducing his new sidekick, Copperboy.
- Can be any gender
- Can be any age
- Must be identifiable to their hero
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
- Files must be named: CHoW#301_Username (Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow301final.jpg will not be accepted)
- Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
- Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
- At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
- Follow the brief!
HA! This is just up my alley
Another question, can we make a sidekick for a superhero that is part of a group? Example, I would like to do something for the Human Torch, but he is part of Fantastic 4.

Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee
I could have fun with this. I love comic book style art.
Also, Quote for style
"Behind every hero, there is always a wisecracking, obnoxious Nincompoop!"

Sidekick to : Dr. Strange

Rough sketch of character
I don't think I can resist this prompt!
Is there some leniency on the definition of 'well known' super hero? Like could we take supernatural characters from certain mythologies and give them sidekicks, or are we limited to modern comic heroes who wear spandex and shoot lasers. Not that there's anything wrong with the latter...
Cool idea. I like the flow and action in the picture. At this point I think the arm holding the stop sign can need some attention.
Good start. Keep on rendering out.
ha! thats awesome Pixeltuner! nice stuff so far guys!
just a quick sketch of my hero, before i start on his sidekick.... one of the baddest dudes in the marvel universe!
Would Spawn be accepted? He is more like an Anti-heroe, but he fights against bad guys D:
Dreamers only dream, but creators bring their dreams into life.
I thought I pick a hero unlikely to be choosen by anyone else, but I was wrong.
Looks great Gadbury!
Here's a wip of my idea... (might change the composition later)
The Punisher and his sickkick Blame.
Blame has the ability
to draw fire
to fit in small places
he also uses the same judicial processes of his mentor.
first quick sketch.
Vasavi was born blind, and abandoned on the streets in Delhi. Her lack of sight made her as fearless of heights, and at 8 years old, was taken in by a circus, performing tricks on the high wire and trapeze.
A wounded DareDevil chanced upon her one night after she was beaten up severely, and in an uncharacteristic move, decided on the spot, to train her.
DareDevil would never purposely have a "sidekick"... His training of this young girl, was an act of kindness during his recuperation from injury, which he now regrets... He can't seem to get rid of her, and is often amused by her wit and tenacity.

Spider man sidekick: Black Widow
Marvel and DC seem to suffer from 'simpsons did it' syndrome, there's pretty much a minor super hero character for every theme ever. Only discovered part way through there is a character in the spider man universe called Widow, or some variance upon that. I'm not a *massive* comic fan...
As always feedback / crits welcome.
@alexLH: yea there is already a black widow, you should think of another name.
@Gadbury: Wow, thats awesome! Only thing I see to be off is that his forearms are too short.

J: Don't call my escorts hookers.
B: Mom's still got it!
J: I don't date whores!
L: This objectification of women has to stop!
M: It's just mom and whores...
My Sketch Book
Well, I figured I would do something for Thor, even though he doesn't really NEED a sidekick, but she would have his back when he needed it.
Her name is Brynhildr, meaning "armored female warrior" or some variation of that. She is a Valkyrie, however, she is not THE Valkyrie (there is already a comic book hero named Valkyrie). A Valkyrie is not a single person but a group of Norse goddesses.
Once I go digital, I can more easily make proportion adjustments as needed. I can see a few.
Nickybeats: That guy looks pretty cool, but I don't recognize who it is. I thought I knew most of the marvel line up.
G@M: Yeah you can tell who it is. Your sidekick's costume fits very well with the nordic theme.
NakedZergling: How about Wolverine?
Heres an update on mine. I started the painting process. Still have a ways to go.

shorinji - its Gladiator. i think he was first introduced in fantastic four, but later had it out with and against the xmen. he is basically marvels version of superman. he punched juggernaut to another planet once... thats all you need to know haha.
Havok Reed: Nice sidekick choice the hand holding the spear looks quite little atm, but im sure you'll work it out and i also think that the arm holding the shield looks a little forced hidden behind her like that ( are you avoiding hands? ). Do you already have a plan for a background? or are you going to leave it blank?
Shorinji_Knight: Thanks for the pointer, btw are you being sarcasting when saying his costume fits with the nordic style? i was going more for a roman theme for him, plus he's half naked :< i'll have to take your comment into consideration while rendering this thing further.
so i wanted to see what my image would look like as an actual cover, i think it actually doesn't look all that bad :E
G@m : No sarcasim. I saw thor and thought norse, that's all.
But I see where you got the idea now that I reread my original post. It was a typo sorry. I meant to write can not can't.
I'll fix that in my post also.
