I have now almost forgotten about this, but some twenty years ago or so I saw a South African comic which set his story in modern-day Johannesburg. If memory serves, they also used a drawing style similar to his: rather rough around the edges but possessing its own charm.

So perhaps my initial take was wrong: maybe had he lived today he would have abandoned fine art for graphic art, because he was after all very much concerned about using art to send a message. He used fine art because at the time there wasn't much else (as far as I know). He couldn't get a job as illustrator because his drawing style didn't fit in with what was acceptable at the time.

We are targeting artists (painters and sculptors only) with HFA, Asperger's Syndrome, or significant executive functioning or medical challenges.
This sounds a bit iffy to me. Like they're targeting people who won't nessecarily be comfortable fighting back if they get ripped off.
