True, OL. It's just that I don't want to be held back anymore. But we'll see what happens after March.

How's your portfolio going? I'd love to see it.

@Lycoris - My portfolio is done, zipped, and shipped. I'll upload it in a week or so when I feel like compiling all these raw scans. I'm not very confident this year. I'm not seeing much progression from the one I made last year so I just really hope I get an easy grader.

It's not bad to pay the day of, but they prefer it is already paid. When I submitted one last year they were literally booting people from line to go pay at the Registrar if they hadn't already. I'm not sure if it is different if you attach a cheque to your portfolio or not. I did that my first attempt when I had to mail my portfolio in. Again, if possible, visit the registrar and pay before the submission day or quickly pay before getting in line. After dropping it off there is an orientation/tour you can attend, but there is still waiting time after that so find a spot and get comfy. As for assessments you'll get them in the mail early april. I'm submitting mine in person on the 25th. Good luck

Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem. I'm getting all worried cause I'm not really sure whether my life drawings that are supposed to show motion actually qualify as that. I'll post the one I'm not sure about:

http://i.imgur.com/LUCiBae.jpg (I'm going to clean this up/trace over later, for now I'm just concerned about whether it's a pose that shows motion). I wonder how strict they are about that. Like, if the pose is kind of on the fence, and they decide it's not a motion pose, would they immediately write off your portfolio?

I'm not entirely sure about that one. To me, only the main gesture arch line is what's suggesting the motion. If you took that away, I'd just assume it was someone on their knees posing instead of landing. (I'm guessing that's the motion you were going for?) If you have time, I would suggest you do a stronger pose. If you don't, I think it would be definitely toeing the line. On a completely other note, if you decide to go over the drawing and clean it up, I suggest making the head smaller. It feels too big for the body, especially since it should be in foreshortening.

Edit: BUT they shouldn't write off your portfolio just because of that.

I'm just putting my stuff together now in Photoshop. I'll link it later tonight when I'm done.
@OfficialLamp Yea I saw your post about not liking the model and then I saw somebody I didn't recognise (Not that know anyone else there really anyway) and was like "I bet that's the guy from the internet!"

Soooo I just finished uploading everything I have on the INTERWEB!

I'm pleased with my portfolio, though I will replace one of my figure drawing by one that has more movement.
    Feedbacks are greatly appreciated

    And it's here!!

@Yahualli All right!!! Looking slick. If I can suggest that it might be better to only include one portrait instead of two. Personally I was eyeing the dude but its your choice. Just to show maximum variety although if you think its stronger than anything else you have then just stick with two. Good luck!

@Uptown - This week might be fast, but march will feel like several months.
@yahualli - Fix up the composition on your first object drawing. It's easy marks down the drain and I think if you can avoid those you can get in.

I realized that I made a tiny typo on my storyboard. I typed in 2012 instead of 2013. So much facepalm.

Hopefully the judges won't be too picky on the mistakes...

    And it's here!!

Your character's feet are a bit off. The back side should at least show the widened front part a little. The right leg seems a little thinner than the left.

Your room drawing shelves are a bit off too. One of the shelves gets narrower as it goes down, and the one beside it gets a bit wide.

The toy chest looks like it will fall over.

Your ring finger looks longer than your middle finger in your hand drawing.

Good work here. Keep it up!

hey guys, for your storyboards are we supposed to put in dialogue? It only says "action" and there's no space for dialogue but I've been seeing some people inserting dialogue.

All right. Im done and uploaded my stuff to a deviant art account. I gotta go actually mail this thing so everything has such exciting titles such as "Personal Hands" and "Storyboard". Go nuts.

I also have a question about the storyboard- if we choose to draw it on paper first, how do we transfer it onto the storyboard sheet sheridan gave? Am I right in thinking we use photoshop or some other image manipulation program to transfer the drawings?

For the stoyboards its fine to add in dialogue. Just put quotes around it and make sure you specify that John or Jane is the one saying it (even though its obvious).

@8bee Yea I used photoshop to do mine. You can download a 30 day free trial from adobe to do it in a pinch.

    (It looks really "meh")
(jeepers, my portfolio from last year has had over a thousand views!)

@official I have to say even though you may think it is not as amazing when you compare it to something to the standard of APW portfolios. I really think you have a good chance of getting in (don't want to jinx it though xD) and all that needed to be fixed has been fixed in your new portfolio. Your animal drawings look much better than your previous ones and your layout drawing is WAY better than your previous ones, The line quality on your life drawings look much more cleaner and has a nice sense of rhythm, there is better consistency in your character rotation compared to last year. Overall your portfolio has a lot of potential so don't down yourself over it, you persevered and from what I got from a professional animator "Stubbornness is a really good trait for an animator."

@kamikazel33t - Oh geeze, thank you for the kind words! I meant moreso in scan quality when I said it looked "meh", but that means a lot to me still.

Wow, you're guys's portfolios look great! I definitely think all of you guys have great potential in getting in this year. I'll be done this weekend and then I'll update my blog. Certainly wish I knew about this site earlier...

@OfficialLamp I really like your stuff! the portfolio you submitted last year is also really good, what did you score on it if you don't mind me asking? I'm starting to think the stuff I've done isn't going to meet the standards

@radicat - The whole scoresheet is here: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8441/img034r.png (I think I should link that in my blog post). Honestly, just do your best and you might be surprised. The marking rubric is kind of weird in how it weighs things and people have bombed sections but still made it in. And remember that Sheridan is a high apple to pick, it is not at all irregular or shameful to apply multiple times before getting in.

I am going to be uploading my portfolio soon after I do some touch ups and have another go at animal drawing as well as life drawing. If all else fails I still have the drawings from photographs(better than nothing and I just hope they say that because most students tend to copy the contour of the model instead of construct em). Gah my portfolio looks the most rough because it's all done in pencil , I'll see what I can do with cleaning it up.

I finally finished editing mine about two hours ago. ( I can't sleep damn it. D I hope they won't mark off the quality cleanness of my copies. I had to take photos cause they were so huge and I tried to white balance everything but hmm :/ Still have speckled yellow vibe thing going on.. I'll hopefully post it up tomorrow. :3 (Well, later today.)

Mailed it in, talk about cutting it close, I made it in just before closing time so basically I got it stamped at feb 22 and I can come in the next day and modify the package(change out a few drawings here and there). btw is it just my printer or does the drawings come out worse than you see it on screen after scanning?
