Hey dunnstar do you think I can get away with simply making the character smaller instead overhauling everything and save me some time that way? Yeah I actually understand how straight you can get lines freehand, in fact I can do that to although the issue is that I have trouble with accuracy because the trick to it is drawing from the elbow or shoulder and using speed to dictate how straight your lines are though the reason why it requires a lot of practice is due to accuracy and hitting it point to point 100% is really hard so I sometimes lose confidence in this technique and start drawing my line slowly. Tough habit to kill! Anyway I'll be posting my newest character rotation soon as well as storyboards and my fixed room drawing.

Don't use any particular technique draw the way you want to. The hand will naturally go in it's own positions, what you are reffering to is actually more often used when shading so don't force your body into unnecessary positions. You can't expect to make detailed work by holding the pencil like an oil brush. As for the straight lines at least make one with the ruler or try to do it perfectly by hand and then coordinate using it and fixing the others. I also don't do straight lines with a ruler even when I am working with ink. Fact is though when we sit on a different angle or look at things on a bigger format you need to do at least one object right so that you can make the others using it.

I honestly dont think you can shrink it and it'll work out, but if you dont have time for the overhaul, then keep it. It'll look like a bigger mess if you shrink.

Shit I already shrank it >_< and yeah it does look like a bigger mess. This was the first attempt at a room drawing so I can probably pull off a faster and better overhaul quickly but I want to make sure I can finish everything first. Do you think I can get away with tracing? Are the proportions of the furniture correct when the character is removed? If so things will be a lot easier to overhaul.

tracing your own drawing? Hell yeah. I traced all mine - to get the crisp and clean look. It's not quite proportioned but I don't quite know whats off at this point. The furniture feels wrong but I don't know why.

Kamil - Just looking at your room drawing, the table legs aren't the same vertically - specifically the legs in the middle. Your chair feels like it is tilting to the right a bit versus standing straight which I assume most chairs do. Uhmm, you may want to move the garbage can from under the desk, it doesn't read too well and I thought it was a part of the chair when I first looked at it. o-0 The biggest error is that your lines all have the same weight. You should try pushing it more with heavier lines so that the bed the guy isn't sitting on feels closer in space and whatnot. Same with the tiles too, unless you want to keep them understated. Buut yeah, I don't think you'll need to do a complete overhaul. Just fix those and it should give it a better feel.

Hey guys, how are your portfolios coming along? I'm done, I think... I have to send it in tomorrow. Yeah, I said I'd post some up before but such is life. I extremely hate my stuff. I had so much trouble with everything.

I finally got a camera, hooray.

I think I just want a last minute critique before it ships off so that I could probably fix some. Pretty please? lol

    Good luck everyone!!!

My camera quality's terrible... Sorry about all this!!

I'm honestly not sure why my some of my photos are not vertical. I edited them all and it still does it. Siiiigh.

Your portfolio looks pretty good, congratz on the completion. One thing ill say is that the life drawing don feel like gestures. If you could try and find drawings you did that feel more like a gesture, use them

Lyricos: I think its a pretty good submission. Your room and your storyboard being the strongest.

for the future, watch how stubby your legs are getting in your life drawings.

    I'm just now feeling nervous.....

Btw, does anyone want links to successful applicants? I collected them over recently and I thought maybe it could help a little.

I've got what's left of my storyboard, and then the action figure drawings. I'd like to redo my room layouts (because they're terrible) but they take so long.

    You're almost done!

    The room drawing takes forever...

I had to do so many pages of them because the proportions were always off by few inches. Proportions are not my friend.

    Thanks for the list Lycoris.
I personally hate the character rotation the most, I think I might have to redo it. For the most part, I'm done drawing everything but I need to worry about line quality and deciding which pieces to use for personal art. My papers are getting wrinkles for erasing and fixing constantly, should I trace the drawings on a new sheet of paper? I'm not sure if wrinkled paper will cost me overall presentation marks ><

I hated the rotation too. I had a lot of trouble with the character section. I'd say trace it since it keeps the paper neat for presentation and you can also see your drawing better. I kept drawing mine over and over again by tracing. Kill two birds with one stone.

John and Jane are Carol and Adam's parents. *hypothesis*

And now I understand why John's arms are freakishly long. Long John. Ha ha, I get it.

Oh damn! the nerves are getting me. What's really weird, is that Kayla Jackson in the rejected pile, obviously was a competent drawer but her character rotation flunked. so she lost her spot.

Those sections can make or break you.

Lyricos, if you don't mind, i'll be linking your post in the firstpost, its very comprehensive!
Deliah: yeah I would suggest tracing, it gets it nice and clean.

Yeah of course! Go right ahead

Usually all of them are very good enough to get into Sheridan. The problem is the portfolio. Even just one mistake in one or two sections can break you.

Just finished up my storyboard. Now I just have to choose 5 personal and I have one more figure drawing session on monday. Guess I'll mail it out on tuesday, but I still feel like that's cutting it close.

0_o Perspective and spacial volume ain't even marked on the storyboard as well, I guess it might be an attempt at re-balancing the marking scheme for the portfolio

Storyboard is marked for perspective and sense of spatial volume.

Edit: a few other things: digital media is accepted, and they don't frown upon it. To clear this up, the rubric says "digital submissions will not be accepted" which is referring to USB sticks or e-mail submissions, and has no relation to digital media. As for demonstrating structure, a lighter colour/lower opacity brush works just fine. As long as it's printed on paper and it's your original work, it's acceptable. There is no negative bias towards digital work- the two digital character rotations I've seen scored perfect.

    Here's one for proof: http://getvent.deviantart.com/art/To...ions-199159520

The CA forum's system is pretty harsh when it comes to new users posting due to them avidly trying to avoid advertisement spam and whatnot. Apparently there is a thread warning new users not to edit their posts.

Btw you haven't introduced yourself , are you a fellow animation hopeful? I bet you were one of those lurkers, so what's up!

Okay, I have no idea how this forum works -.- SORRY! I meant to quote OfficialLamp (I remember him from last year btw heh).

Wow, I can understand why you'd be bitter about last year. That portfolio has got to be entire points better than a LOT of accepted portfolios I've seen. They're so moody with scoring! I applied last year too. My scoresheet basically looks EXACTLY like yours except I got 1s & 2s on storyboard and 4s on room and household. It was 2.86 total

Yep I'm an animation hopeful for sure I moved to Oakville from Ottawa this year to take art fundamentals, but I dropped out for second semester because I didn't like it.

I live at 1260 Marlborough ct (literally right beside Sheridan college). I live with 2 roommates who are both also applying for Animation.

Yes I'm probably one of those lurkers haha. So is my roommate Jessica, she was on the forum last year too.
