Hello, I wanted to start off here by posting on of my latest works and getting a critique of it. Usually in my pieces I rely heavily on source material, however for this one I tried to limit myself in an attempt to get out my comfort zone.

I'm confused by the jaw/chin area. Is that supposed to be fabric covering her mouth? Also what is that bulge on her left side of her face? Almost like part of her cheeks are missing at the bottom. The way you've painted makes it look like she has a lump on her forehead. Or is this a guy?

Yes it's suppose to be a fabric, I tried to create a fabric material that was slightly loose so there would be some distance between her face. I actually didn't notice that about the forehead earlier so definitely thanks for that. I'm glad you pointed these things about nobody does in class.

That happens sometimes in classes but not even your instructor pointed out anything? Okay, since its fabric, it should be creating a smoother line over the chin instead of what you have here. Put a scarf or something similar up to your nose and pull it to how you envision it for this piece. And the left side of the face possibly could be a straighter line unless she has some type of deformity. How loose is the fabric supposed to be? Is the character a ninja?

If that's supposed to be a scarf or whatever around her face, you really need reference, because right now it looks more like the bottom of her head is turning into a heartless or something.

    I love the mood!
    dot point observations - sorry.

-Figure out the lighting. Strong light on the bangs which is why the back part of her hair is dark? - Apply that same lighting on her forehead.
-Metaphor: The darkness holds her voice. (brainstorming)

Reference - Don't be afraid of it. ^^
-Her inner right eyelid in particular. It looks puffy, and not forming the right contour.

    Keep it creative
    Refernce and studies!
