I'm not sure if you have noticed it yourself, but it seems to me that you have progressed since your first post. It looks like you are sarting to play more with value, wich is good imo. Lines are 10x more difficult to nail correctly if you aren't familliar with the 3d shapes you are depicting. I like the last batch of ref. faces. Keep doing them and keep spending time on your values. Remember: you are not copying the placement of the light and dark spots, you are depicting the actual shapes. Always remember to ask the question 'WHY'!

    Have fun

The new beat, the new beat, the new beat, the new beat.

Finally got my lazy ass back to my place and scanned my sketchbook. Haven`t been home for a while, so here comes a pretty large dump. Boobies included!

starting off with another mech attempt. Not really good at robots, but i try, cuz there are so much cool stuff around in that category.

here`s the result of being bored and staying in #conceptart on irc.

    Clean lines for color practise.

    Whatever

I heard a song in the background while sketching, and a funny image popped up in my head. Guess wich song!

    Ass:

Been struggling with FFVII withdrawal lately, here`s the result. I know yuffie usually dont wear skirts, but in this case she does!

Wanna brush up on my max skills, this is a quick character concept for that purpose:

    SAY SOMETHING!

//edit: i forgot to resize the last one. I am sorry, but i am not gonna change it. I`m a lazy fucker.

Your body anatomy is on the right track for
improvent I think you need to work a bit more
on your face features, drop the manga
stylization for faces, and make some
muscles and bones studies of the head.

In the imagination department you are doing fine
no critics there, your concepts are real fun to wach
just keep studing anatomy dude see ya

    Big-ass update!

    Long time no post.

Starting off with the worst kind of drawing. The kind you hate but can`t just put down and let it go:

    Dont like this one:

    Yeah... whatever:

    more satisfied with this one:

    Faces:

I shouldn`t be allowed within 10 feet of watercolor:

    Smudging.

    BLEH!

    Nipples.

    Big guns

    Ref used.

    Hop hop.

Looking forward to TESIV-Oblivion, and i have started doing some conceptart that will be maxed in tiime..

    Thats all folks!

Hmm.. And all these years i have believed i actually had a real life. Well, i guess you`re the better judge of that. As for the problems, yes i am LOADED with problems. In fact, i AM a problem to many.

    Thank you, now shut up!

wow! what improvement! you seem to get better no matter how little people crit!!
getting better in ALL areas, so just keep going and maybe ill have some USEFUL things to tell you.
Maybe just one thing: youre normal anatomy is very comicy, youre domai sketches however are really realistic. You should try to USE some of the stuff you learn off ref, not just go back to them same old stuff once youre "on youre own"!!

    cheers, odt

cool stuff mate, love the profile head in this picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...b18aug04_2.jpg

i think you should take some time to study the actual features of the face seperatly.

all digital stuff today.. I need to learn photoshop better, since its so much faster and CLEANER than any traditional medium.

    Gugg: mmmm! spinach!
ODT: I don`t really need crits. cuz i read what crits other people get, then apply them to my work. Im a sponge soaking up all the great knowledge of this forum. (But i would still very much like for people to crit my shit.)
Argh: you got it. Lets sharpen the blades and get it ON! (after td8 is done..)
Davi: Will do. Thanks for the kind words.
dCepT: Yeah man! i should have been there. But you know what its like to be a starving artist... I`ll be on the next one. I WILL! (did you guys have a good time btw?)

Starting off with one of those five brush strokes a day-projects.

I don`t sketch directly into photoshop very often. here`s an attempt:

    Another attempt:

Here`s one i did for the t-shirt challenge, but i was all like... fuck it..

One of my dawgs, as i imagine he will look in 40 years.

    Final fantasy x fanart WIP

    Bleh. Don`t like this one:

And finally, my wip for the thunderdome 8 entry.

I would still very much like to recieve crits, since i am not that good at spotting my mistakes. please leave atleast a word each..

Here`s something from the past days. I have been battling alot on irc.

This is from an oc-session with calle, nousefraname and me. The girl is shitty. The dude is supposed to be Erik Bye, a norwegian actor/famous person that recently passed away.

I believe that this thread have become long enough to get to the second page. Doncha think?

I`ve been neglecting my sketchbook lately. In fact i dont think i`ve drawn traditionally since last year. Im beginning to understand the importance of drawing from reference, and i have used ref for all of these sketches. Some things still come from my imagination, i cant help it.

I feel that i have improved a bit, i`ve tried to pay more heed to what the pros and knowhows have said around these boards, and i think its paying off. I still wish people would crit my sketches directly tho, since thats the best way of telling whats wrong, instead of adapting what they say about other peoples work and applying it to mine.

So here they are, please leave a insightful comment or two..

My brother and i did a little challenge, 10 minute portraits of each other. here`s mine:

    Here`s my brothers piece. (he`s 6)

//edit: These are a bit higher-rez now, but now i see that the scans are horrible. well.. thats life.

Ah! Studies! Yes! See, it's improving your work already! Try learning more about the structure of the figure. Do some bone studies and then figure out how the muscle lays over that. Think of it like your a sculptor. Just build up the drawings. Some of your anatomy and proportion on the stuff from your head is a bit iffy. This could really help you.

One thing I like about this thread is that it really showcases your imagination. You can't learn how to be creative. It's something you just have. Keep developing your skills, bro. You're gonna get exactly where you want to be!

really great sketchbook ! A shame no more people post in here !

I agree that you have improved (several times) since you started posting. I mostly like the stuff where you're pushing the values (light - dark).
Don't care too much for your cartoony stuff, but I think it's because it has more mistakes than the others. Cartoony to me, is simplified, which makes every line must be a right line. Some of the later stuff seems a mix between realistic and cartoony ? I'd say you're pulling those off very nicely !

    Post some more !!!

    Exclamation

Well, what do we have here...
I happened to stumble upon this thread by chance, and the further I progressed down the thread, the deeper my suspicions became, that you, Slash, were in fact someone I knew from real life. Then I noticed the signature in one of your sketches, and my suspicions faded and were replaced by certainty.

HaHA! Selvfølgelig husker jeg deg! Verden er jammen liten! Velkommen til conceptart.org!

Lets switch back to english so the paranoid conspiracy theorist admins dont come bashing down on us for speaking this communist spy language. I will check out your charchoal pieces, it should be fun to see how you have progressed since school.

You should definately start a sketchbook, i remember you had some insane pencil renderings back in school. People like that around here.

Again, welcome to conceptart, enjoy your stay!

I'm really enjoying your pencil renders of the female figure and face, awesome stuff. From the beginning towards the end I can see that your proportion has increased dramatically, keep posting, awesome work dude.

    Five Months!

Ladies and gents, its been almost five months since my last update. Partly because my scanner was stolen, but most of all because i've been exploring other things besides drawing. And i've slacked off quite a bit as well. Well, im back, and hopefully with a vengeance! Here's something from yesterday, 2 of my brothers, from photos.

Great sb! Looking through it all, I think the refs helped, but that's what they're there for -- I mean it as a good thing. Awesome stuff.

That last post looks great too. Only crits I have are the differences in value on the eyes of the boy on the left. And, on the boy to the right, the neck needs a bit something so that it doesn't look cut off from the head. It's a fantastic rendering job with near perfect economy of lines. Well done.

    Post more often too!

    -Craig

you replied for me, so it's only fair. the anatomy does look very good, and your practice shows. the girls all look fantastic, and i really like the expressiveness you manage to pull off even in simple sketches. they're also manage to be very creative while avoiding being hoaky. last update looks very nice, but craig is right about the eyes. the girl with the huge neck from way long ago manages to be my favorite little drawing in the whole thing, though. excellent work, wkeep posting.
