    missing muse sketches

    Hi everyone!

This will be my new home for my sketches to keep them all cozy and warm for the upcoming winter. I've just started learning how to draw so hopefully your helpful critiques will help me understand how to draw better!

All I have to take pictures with is my phone although, no scanner. I'll try to take 'em as best as I can though ha.

    oct 6 2012 shoe

This took me two hours over a span of two days because I got lazy to finish it the first.

I also started reading "Perspective for Artists" by Rex Vicat Cole but I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to apply it to my drawings. Do I copy down the pictures in the book? hm...

Copying the drawings cant hurt! You have very nice movement in those gestures. Very nice. On the still life You might want to try using pencils with a little more softness so you can get a better range of value. It might just be your camera but it seems like they could use more contrast! Hey, thanks! I thought those gestures were really terrible since they were the first few I've tried ever. I've been trying to apply the techniques in Michael Hampton's "Figure Drawing" but I'm having lots of trouble adding in masses (torso, pelvis) because I can't seem to get the proportions right in my gestures. What range of pencils would you recommend? I used a 2B and HB in the shoe drawing.

    Cool

Damn, these are some stiffies! It's the morning though so it's understandable (if you get what I mean). My gestures look alright until I add in the masses. I need more and more practice!

My SO went hunting recently (but I didn't get to go); he brought back a moose and they lopped off its head so I drew it. I became lazy when I drew the antlers although.
I went off of another user's suggestion saying I should use softer pencils but now I think it looks like the contrast is too high. Any suggestions?

I have been drawing recently but haven't had my camera operable for a while. Here are some new pictures (I don't feel like I've made any progress at all):
