    thanks Lemur

Great work all, look forward to seeing them all finished!

i think this is going to be the final for me

These are some space pirates salvaging what the can from an abandoned asteroid mining facility that suffered an accidental explosion.

    Thumbnails

    Hi guys,

I'm pretty late but i think i'll finish my final before the deadline

Here's some of my thumbnails. I plan a picture with some kind of Nomads who travel the space for researchin' materials and energy. When the suddenly reached this old, rusty, obliterated space hangar...

I just love the diversity of approaches in these contests. Interesting entries so far. Really inspiring.
But I expected to see more vehicles/ships. It's a hangar after all. Even if it's messed up. It's not a generic empty ship room, right ? Should at least write "Hangar" somewhere

Anyway, here's what I got so far. Still some work to do. Hope I'll finish in time.

messed with it abit, we'll see where it goes, i like leuparaleu's idea about putting more ships in there, so i guess i'll do that tomorrow. maybe a ship infront of that pesky big wall, it seems to want to be a focal point

    ´elo

lemur: nice colors! but yup, something in the picture wants to be the focal point.
@adrian: lots of bright colours, and high contrast everywhere. try to limit high contrast to the focal point (contrast in value and colour) also watch the perspecitve. not sure- somthing looks "off"
@rano: nice thumbnails! i like your style.

    me into it,too

did some thumbnails on paper (1) and startet some losose linework in photoshop(2) i blocked in some values and then decided to expand the environment to the right side so i get a second point of interest(the small spaceship) which I recently started to design on paper(4) - i am still blocking in. cleaning up is whats next.

Lewis: Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll try and get some more hangar elements in.

I'm regretting rushing into this piece now and not planning it out as it feels like I'm fighting with it a lot more than I should.

Also attached my initial sketch of the astronauts suit.

me again....what do you guys think about those colours schemes? also why is space allways illustrated blue? has this something to do with waves, are we affected by existing interpretations of space.

    and current version:

@Philipp Scherer Nice design And you're right about the fact that this freaky deep blue is what we usually use for the Space environement painting lol But you design seems to work with this desaturated greeny tone. But, i think, you have to raise the value like you did on the second one to create some nice shinin' and lightin' effect.
And i really like the secondary light at the right. I think you should accentuate this one to really create a nice atmosphere in your painting Nice stuff and keep up

Here's my final "lineart map" composition before starting to add colors

Philipp Scherer: Worked a little more on the values to try and fix the hole in the leg issue

Here's my update for today! There are a couple of things I'm going to fix tomorrow before calling it final.

Actually looking at it now I'm not sure if the colours are too subdued?

maan...love how it turns out moogle! one coin: the big cable doesn´t seem to get smaller whats the story? are they trying to fix something?

@rano: great work on the ornament above the small ship in the foreground! can´t wait to see you going digital? are you planning to destroy the landscape more?

Philipp Scherer: Thanks man It's a search team looking for survivors although I definitely think I could have done a better job of conveying their purpose.

Posting up my WIP for those interested.

Wont finish even with an extension, raped by my day job. APOLOGIES to all.

Philipp Scherer : thank you for your comment, by the way yours looks awesome.

Mooglesarelittle : liking the colours, i would just darken everything, also that vertical white line on the left is so distracting
it actually pulls my eyes to the left instead of the right.
