    The wanderer

    Hello everybody!

I'm going to sculpt this character in Zbrush and supersculpey.
It's from a fantasy setting with chinese influences.

He's a wanderer who disguises himself as a blind monk, when actually he's a deadly warrior who "channels" an unknown entity who tries to bring balance to the world from time to time.
And sometimes, it needs a sword to bring harmony to the world.

I think I spent too much time with highlights and details in the face. We noobs seem to love putting highlights everywhere. hehe

Any crits are welcome! I'm still reading Loomis, hope to get a good grasp in anatomy soon...

Beef up the contrast duderino. Other than that, I think it's looking pretty cool.

Thanks Diedra! (Hope this is your name... if not, I'm sorry!)
Hope I'll get some time to work on it in the next few days... Painting some colors maybe...

The head is pretty large, or the body feels too small (like comparing to the head, I'd expect the body to be like half thicker than what it is, probably because the face reminds me of Zangief so I kinda expect seeing similar body type too).
The "head to nipple" ratio is good to keep in mind too.

TinyBird: I agree with the strange look because of his beard. It seems that he should have a "bigger" body.

But the proportions, are you considering his beard as well?
It seems to me that the anatomy is in proportion with the 8 heads, but still, it needs correction. What do you think?

More progress. Having trouble with the base. Thinking about a circular wooden base that I will paint it black. Around the feet I'm going to make some rocks or vegetation. Any crits? I'm not very confident about his face right now...

Pecs or Pectoras is the latin name for the ''chestmuscle'' (look it up on google to avoid missunderstandings), and i also agree with Lhune, the pecs are small comparing with his arms for exaple, i wouldn't say its impossible to look like that, but it would feel more natrual if you made them bigger. Great figure otherwise!

Do you mean in the sculpture or in the drawing? I didn't meant him to be a very strong character. He's on his 50s, and i tried for him to be a "little" realistic. But right now, as I look him in the sideview, his pecs look rather small... yes... I'm going to paint some tattoos on his chest too. Maybe that will help.

In a sidenote: Can't I "Thank" people for their useful posts in this new site layout?

Hey there! Really good looking sculpture so far! The only thing I would suggest is that the back of his head is looking like it's lacking some skull. Also, I was wondering what brand of sculpy you're using? It has a cool shiny texture to it, I like.

Great observation. I was paying little attention to that part right now... The ear should be in the "middle" of the head.

I'm using SuperSculpey. It's the first and only one that I have ever used! Actually, this is my first attempt at sculping... I'm scared as hell about baking it. I'm affraid it will explode or get on fire... rs...

    DISASTER!!!!!

    I tried to bake it.
    It was a disaster!!!!
It fell two times, damaging the body and head. The armature coming from the back wasn't attached to something heavy enough, and it's sculpey base got soft with the heat.
Ant the worse, some bubbles started do appear...
Maybe it was the temperature (my oven have a 150-180 celsius minimum) and I opened the oven two times when it fell.
    Oh boy, what a mess...

    Painted Sculpture

Even with the mess I decided to paint it.
Actually I didn't have a choice because of the deadline of my design course.
Here's some shots of the most recent version.

I don't know if it's the camera lenses, but I think his legs are too thick!!!!
Well, I'm not satisfied, but it's my first sculpture... Going to improve more in the future I guess.
    Any other suggestion?

Next step: The illustrations of this character!!Get your "mean" critics ready, folks.

Here's the first steps in Zbrush:

Question: Do I pose him after the detailing or before?

Here's some progress on detailing and color:
    Name: body with Color.jpg
Views: 343
Size: 129.8 KB
    Name: detalhes.jpg
Views: 346
Size: 289.4 KB

Decided to make some details before posing and others after to correct the deformations of the process.
There's a lot of work to do yet.
It's not going to be a high poly character. It must be close to a action figure, so I'm not going to detail it with skin pores or photo realistic skin color.
Oh, and I'm just starting at zbrush, so any tips would be very appreciated.
