Been doodling since I can remember. Been obsessed with improving lately, so hopefully this sketchbook will be a good launching point! Some pieces to kick it off:

Did a few random things today. A straight-to-pen & marker rendering (from photo ref.), some painting practice and some 20 second gestures before bed.
If anyone is willing to help shed some light on how to keep values from becoming muddy when blending in PS, I would be forever grateful!

A few observations from life, photos and a couple of my favorite artists. The Master studies were done from pieces by Ashley Wood and Kekai Kotaki.

The sandstone arch in front of the deep blue sky has a great sense of depth, nice stuff. With the axe-wielding dude facing away from the camera, you ignored a lot of shadow on his back -- maybe that squint technique would help you see the values better?

Mr Zero: Thanks for the words. I totally agree about the color on the axe wielder. I need to do more value studies before venturing into the world of color. I will try the squint technique the next time I brave the color palette!

Sketch dump time! Some gesture work combined with some rendering practice and just general noodling around.
