Rather disappointed with myself. Certainly not a good haul by any standards, I tend to play my dailies on the safe side and improve/study/explore separately --but I haven't been doing the latter very much.

Going to do some anatomy studies again, hopefully I'll have quite a bit by tomorrow.

    In the meantime, bleh:

(Oh um, I have a teensy question. My tablet and monitor are starting to fail out on me, I'm gonna go get a new tablet --was thinking of a small Intuos 5, but do most people on here get a cintiq? Not that I'm at the level where I'd be able to take full advantage of it, but I'm curious --cause it would be a waste of money to get a brand new intuos if I'm just gunna replace it. Also, do monitors matter? I know I can't calibrate the colors properly on this and it makes a lot of my work more saturated than I'd want it to be. Are LED's any better for color?)

Sorry for asking so many questions.

I got a new tablet and another monitor to make a dual screen. I dunno if there's a difference, but the quality on my old one looks so different. This one is crisp and the colors are different --I guess since it's a new monitor versus my 6 year old one, it's right.

The first illustration I've done using the new monitor was the last one on the page, I'm not sure if that looks awkward or better in terms of color versus my other ones.

Master study of Amerling's "The Oriental" (around 6 hours to complete)

--I'm starting to think that it's kind of pointless to be updating my dailies on here, they're too hasty and repetitive. Still gunna do them, but they're on my blogspot link in my sig

Gunna try and keep this strictly for WIPS, complete illustrations and studies.

    45 Minutes.

First attempt at architecture.....meeeeeeh. I've GOT to understand this better, I completely forgot how to use perspective lines and tried to freehand it. The left building looks so wonky.

Would anyone have any good tips on how a beginner can tackle the subject? I think I'm skipping steps again.

Beautiful stuff man. I don't know what to say! Subscribed.

Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/

    Lovely stuff, Cryptid!

I would have to agree with the others who have mentioned the oversaturated colors, however. Don't forget that if every color is equally intense no color really shines out. Maybe you could try doing some experiments where you use really desaturated colors and only use full intensity on stuff you really want to accent?

I completely agree with you, Clockwork, it's something I really need to work on.

Here's my entry for this League of Legends contest to win a Cintiq. I'm not counting on winning, but it was a very interesting learning experience.

First time I spent 25 hours on something.

Hey guys, mini-update. I'm trying to tackle darker subject matters, so these are kind of experimental:

And thank you LionHeart for pointing out the edge issue, I assume you mean that the edges are too soft, right?

Like lionheart i would say your edges are too blurry, it's easily fixable, just think about it and you'll have no problem fixing it. Also i saw you complained about textures, well, a solution would be to put you textures really early, like at the same time you block your shapes, and try to not overpaint. For instance : we want to create a small rock:

    I'm aliiiiiive.

I've been rather ashamed of my art lately, especially given what Furzion posted above about textures (thank you SO much by the way). It made me realize a loooot things that were wrong with my rendering process, and that I really need to work on it. Unfortunately, since I still don't have much time due to animation school, I never got around to applying the techniques yet --so yeah, still stagnating. I'm REALLY going to tackle it in the summer break though.

Also, I signed up for a class with Studio Technique for anatomy, since I'm having horrendous issues with it and I'm sure it's keeping me from getting a job at this point. I'll be posting gesture and anatomy work on here when it starts in May.

So I'm at DAY 146 in terms of dailies, I haven't missed a day (not counting being an hour late on one, but it was due to an emergency). Instead of flooding the board, I'll just post the environment based ones rather than the creatures; I'm pretty weak at environment so any crits are appreciated

The speed paints below range from 30-45 minutes, not including a rough compositional sketch.

Ahhhh, it's good to be back.

I won't bore you all with my repetitive dailies that don't show much progress, but I've been working on guns lately, it's something completely new to me.

30 minute speed paint of my first made up sort of sci-fi gun. I tried to eye-ball the perspective...bad idea, not doing that tomorrow when I make more.

I'm going to do some gesture work right now, I really want to get about 30 in every day.

Gunna make some more orthographic ones so I force myself to use the dreaded perspective lines that I tend to avoid so much.

Pretty bad textures, definitely gotta work on that. But using 2 point perspective rather than just eye balling it like I did before made life so much easier...

I think the best way to learn fast.... is to mix imagination and observation on a project you like... If you leave your comfort zone (like the guns ) its even better

Not much of a haul for today. I REALLY want to spend the next 40 or so days crunching as much knowledge as I can learn before I have to finish my final year of animation.

Tried using gesture techniques on animals for the first time, not sure if it worked. But LOL, I remember going to the zoo back in the 10th grade and I couldn't understand what gestures were so I'd treat the animals as if they were still lifes...epic fail

Nice colors there. That lemongrab sure is freaky, his voice just makes him even more creepy. Your textures have gotten much better, that post by FUZION PREDATOR has made me rethink my life.

Been watching and reading a lot of tutorial videos on hands today, but didn't make nearly enough practices to get the hang of it. So I’m gunna try and make around 50-100 tomorrow to let it sink in.

:/ Gestures are stagnating, someone rightly mentioned that the outlines are too chicken scratchy and I totally agree, not sure how to go about making cleaner more confidant lines, but I'm thinking that they look scratchy like that cause I tend to go back and forth on some lines and it becomes a mess, so I'll try to tone that down next time.

I also have this Zelda painting that I'd really like to finish --I'm trying to fix the leg issue. But if anyone would happen to have any critique for it, I'd sure appreciate to hear it

Going to make at-least 10 new studies tomorrow to make up for tonight's severe lack of content

Glad you found me so that I could find this I've always loved your paintings, I think you know that, maybe? Haha. I really love your sense for colour, character and lighting :3 Those are really terrific points in your art, I think.
You already know of the weaknesses you have and are working on them, and I see improvement!
Also, I really loved that village home you 3d rendered. The square, diamond, triangle and circle character designs are so great, and a ton of your paintings are too so I can't pick favorites, but I think that the snake on page 2, http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...89#post3587289 here, is worth pointing out because of how strong I feel it is. Particularly some of the edges in it. I think it just works really well.
Oh and your painting of you on the computer chair in a costume haha, and Roy. Those are legendary for me.
That longer master painting study you did a while ago I loved as well, and the LoL fanart as well, great great work.
All of your stuff has a lot of life to it, now it is just a matter of refining and improving.
I really hope you get to where you want to get to

    * ;w; Thanks so much Iris, I love your paintings too. I'm really happy to hear that you're seeing some improvement, I hope I can draw humans nearly as good as you someday lol xD
    ----

Today was a bit more productive than yesterday, not much though.

I kind of went for quantity over quality, which probably was stupid, like I should have taken more time to block out that damn hand lol --I wanted to study skin and used a photo ref for it. I think I'll tackle more skin stuff tomorrow in better detail since it's such a weakness.

Your imaginary human poses are already tonnns better! See? Your proportions and posing are making more sense. I firmly believe that just seeing more and more of the body and going through the motions of observing how it looks, works, is formed, etc, just really inevitably leads to portraying it better. I only seem to be decent at it because I hide/avoid my flaws and fears haha. But thank you for aspiring xD I appreciate it. I will try to face them though, we gotta or we will never improve haha. Keep it up!
