    Hi and welcome!

You will hear this repeated often here, but only because it rings so true.
Draw and paint from life. Seriously. This is a 'tip' for artists of any level,
    from beginner to pro.

Drawing and painting from life allows us to perceive shapes, form and
color as it appears through light and shadow. I'd also suggest using
pencil and paper to practice and churn out as many sketches as you can
as often as you can. Mixing in your imaginative works with studies of
people and objects around you will help you improve immensely.

You're right I was just looking at this apple o-o and trying to shade it.
Well i did shaded it well and that was helpful C:
like in this pic i tried to shade the dagger metal which is pretty much a fail xD
i should practice with a reference of metal stuffs like knife or anything like that C:
    Thanks for the Tip though!

One of the core principles in drawing and painting is good shape design. If you look at the sillhouete does it even read as a dagger? Shape, value, edge. In that order. Get those down before you move on to rendering and materials etc.
