    Music to work to?

Hey, I like listening to music when I draw, which I'm sure a lot of others here do too Music is inspiring but also it keeps us entertained especially when working on a piece that takes a few hours

    Though sometimes I get into a block as to which music to listen to >//< I have exhausted the music on my itunes, and when I approach youtube I can't think what I want to listen to ^^;

Some people believe that music is a distraction and prefer to work in silence, I ask what is your preference? I heard classical music is good as it improves concentration. I like listening to instrumental tracks myself.

So what's your preference? and any suggestions for inspirational tracks that keep you going while drawing? or should music be cut off entirely?

    ;D

Up to you really. I listen to a lot of things and tend to pick one track to loop depending on what mood I want to focus on.

I've recently found myself enjoying Infected mushroom a lot. Particularly the song "Heavyweight" It really encourages a sense of energy and makes art feel just a little more epic

Also, sometimes internet radio is good to just get some music going without having to think about what to pick

Depends: When I'm just painting digitally any song by Two Steps from Hell or X-Ray Dog (and similar) are good -also Ludovico Einaudi. When concentrating I need silence though and traditional works go best with Let's Plays, TV Shwos and Movies xD

Personally I find that music helps the most in the thumbnail phase. When the song is over move onto the next drawing. If you are doing a photo study the durration of an album will be long enough to learn something and not so long you will be wasting time.
Sometimes I hear a song and an image jumps into my head and I have to put whatever else aside and draw it. This could be any song of any genre.

Com Truise is great for drawing sci-fi

Metal is always great for fantasy stuff.

Afro Rock is my favorite working out an "adventure sketch" with crazy poses.

If you ever run out of music, just click on anything that looks interesting in the related area on youtube. I just found this gem while posting stuff.

If you want instrumentals, it doesn't get much better than Mogwai, Gospeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In the Sky, and Russian Circles.

    Mogwai - Punk Rock

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls

Explosions In the Sky - Your Hand In Mine

    Russian Circles - Carpe

I think just hooking you up with one song here and there is a mistake. Its a constant stop start of looking for another song, annoys the hell out of me. What ive recently started to do is listening to "full albums" on youtube, old classics that I should have listened to but never have. Its awesome, the whole album, and when thats done on to the next one, or choose one of the suggested albums on the left of bands youve heard of but never listened to. For example, Id never heard a full Metallica album, so I liste4nd to theri entire catalouge in one swoop. Grand Funk Railroad the same, James gang, Neil Young, Richie Havens etc etc. I love it, its awesome! Some of them you come out of not liking but thats ok, now at least you have a fact based opinion. GFR are amazing buy the way, so strange that you never hear of them today.

Depends on the kind of games and lp'ers you like but videogamecarnage, 666theheartless666 and davidr64yt are all pretty awesome.

As for music I found this a little while back

Same here, though finding silent playthroughs can be stupidly difficult sometimes... Well, couple ones that I like (and can link to without my bookmarks) are Cyborcat/Dena Natali http://www.youtube.com/user/Cyborcat/videos http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/dn/lp and personally I love Spoony's SWAT 4 Let's Play's, though I guess his voice can be grating (but I like the funnies) http://spoonyexperiment.com/video-list/ and Until We Win isn't exactly a Let's Play, buuut... http://www.lordkat.com/until-we-win

Great thread, I have found some new good songs to listen to thanks to you

There are a lot of nice and inspiring music to listen to when creating art. My range of music genres is pretty wide in general, so it often depends on what mood I'm in when working on something, but usually it is something more 'instrumental'.

Some nice songs I like and that you also might like:

Almost all songs by Phutureprimitive rock.

I'm a fan of listening to big mash-up albums because they flow really nicely. You can just put one on and work for an hour or two without ever having to worry about changing tracks or getting pulled out of the mood. The nice bonus is many artists release them for free too. Lately I've been listening to Kleptones' "Uptime" or "Downtime" depending on my my mood. http://mashupbreakdown.com/ has a lot of full albums available for listen by many artists.

If you like instrumental, check out:
    Kryptic Minds
    Jakob
    God is an Astronaut
    Thelem

All of them kinda proggy/drum and bass. Very minimal singing, only in a handful of songs...
