Thread: Mashach's Sketch Book
November 20th, 2012 #61
@ Ninaren. Thank you very much friend. Gah! Really need to find more time to paint, but more coming up!
@ Greenhouse. Trying to push the envelope with coloring, i'm kinda achromatopsic! ha. Btw you are very encouraging, please keep coming back!
@ Insanelight. Thank you very much friend and you are most welcome.
@ Januz. Argh! Yeah my nose is a little skewed! Indeed i have and since you asked i thought i'd start with something a little less detailed, so here's the Orge sketch among the updates!
So some updates...
Sorry about the quality on this one, these were really tiny doodles!
Soteria- Just trying something disturbing, This was a quick rough about 10 mins. Details here soon, but mind you the finish could be really disturbing!
Abandoned this almost as soon as i started it! Was not really happy with the way it was turning out. It was going nowhere...
Need a hand anyone?
This is part of a series of hand studies, thought i'd have some fun too!
So Januz here's a wip close up of the Ogre sketch!
Still working on the concept but thought i'd share anyways!

Lynayru. Thank you very much! Really appreciate it.
Ninaren. Thank you very much. Your comment made my day too! Well i've been drawing even long before God created the universe...but only been doing concept art since 2010, been into comic sketching since 2004! Gave up art in between to pursue music but unfortunately no one had my taste for music and btw you can't make a living singing Death Metal here!

Hey! Glad you're keeping this well updated The last few posts look really gruesome. I'm with you on the color struggle, it really doesn't come naturally to me either. I guess reading up on color theory and practice is the way to do it. Go well!

Ceddo. Just realized i don't even know the actual colors of the rainbow!!! Time for some serious study...Thank you buddy for dropping by and oh, belated birthday greetings!
A few updates.
Showing some friends a couple of things.
It was really cool to see some friends doing quick gesture studies, which inspired me to go back to basics again, but with a little twist this time....decided to sketch em with my LEFT hand! It all started a couple of years ago when i fractured my arm the first time (out of 3 so far) playing soccer! Funny how you end up breaking your hands playing a games with your leg!
A speedy Gonzales painting...i was really bored!

Oh wow, your line-work is so intricate and dynamic. Very inspiring. I would suggest adding more hues in skin tones, (well, I guess in clothes too) when you're rendering in color, just to bring a little more life and another level of intricacy. Have you experimented with different colored light sources too?
Amazing job! I love your creature designs.

Whimsnicole: Thank you very much friend. Really appreciate it. This actually wasn't even 5% in but thanks for the advice. Yes i will be working on a different color light source, hope it all turns out well in the end.
And here's another crop of a w.i.p that i was forced to stall for some client work (also because i was pissed off with the anatomy ), but i'm back at it again. Must finish this soon.

'Agorazo - Alter of pain'
Although i've made a lot of progress on this i thought i'd share an earlier stage of this image because of its graphic nature! There's a bit of a narrative to this piece & i've deliberately left out a few compositional elements here since i'm still trying to figure it out. Find this quite challenging because unlike the usual detailing i'm used to, i'm trying something more minimalistic this time.

I really love Nymphlebotomine - The pain inside

Hit a block while working on an insanely detailed piece, so i decided to read something for a change, and then this! Was quite a challenge drawing those straight lines (of the pencil) manually.

Lunch break doodle! This thumbnail, for a surreal piece, surprisingly took about 15 minutes! Inspired after revising my notes on Soteriology! The finish will be realistic though.
Cleaned up a sketch i drew from memory. Couple of mistakes, but i still like how it turned out.

T-Eight, Three Dee, Korzen: Thank you so much guys! Means a lot!
Its been about 3 months since i sketched anything.
Slowly venting my frustration...
Couple of seconds contour sketch
Caricature of a darling little friend.
And a couple of late night sketches.
The values are all over the place, but this was just a couple of minutes in.
Also had a bunch of guys and girls kicking and screaming behind my back, so i couldn't concentrate...

Going to finish this now that i have some down time.
looks so much like the Warcraft Orcs, so i will revamp the character from scratch & make it more ominous!
Did this in a haste because i wanted to get started on another character.

awesome imagination. I like the ideas you put together for some of the creatures! Keep on posting cross over creatures with human body parts and insects, please! Thanks for sharing!

surus: Thank you! Will do.
Here are some thumbnails and wip.
Iriseraph-Trying to thumbnail an angel!
If you've dabbled with voodoo (or know anything about it) you'll probably understand this thumbnail...
Anyways, this was inspired by the book of Romans-chp 6!!
Live sketching for a few.
Don't usually like company when i work, so you can see this didn't go anywhere with all that yapping...but i will finish this.
Still in progress!
Abandoned this sketch for some reason, but thanks to a friend i've resumed this!

Visited this sketchbook again and you have so much detail in your pieces it felt as if I was seeing all this stuff for the first time. It wasnt until I saw the self portrait that I was like "oh yeah, that guy!" Hmm I have a question actually, when you were starting out did you study a lot of comics and illustration?
August 17th, 2014 #90
Korzen: Thanks for dropping by again friend! Yeah, i did draw a lot from comics growing up, but it isn't the best way to learn to draw though.
Loooooooong time! Some updates.
Gates of Molech- Was taken ill for a couple of day and was trying to scribble my fever away, couldn't hold my pencil straight.
Couple of hours sketch, wanted that rustic look to it!
