    Rates for character model sheets/turnarounds?

    Hello All,

Haven't posted on here in eons (but lurked a lil, lol). Anyway, I came across an ad for a local company in search of an artist/illustrator to do these based on some pre-made designs for an animated project. They need 15 in all minus backgrounds. I can't find my Pricing and Ethical Guidelines book at the moment (in the process of trying to relocate). What do you think is a reasonable rate? Thanks in advance

The last such commission I did was 3 A3 watercolor pages, and I got paid about $700. (It was an elaborate sheet, lots of detail, poses, expressions and the like. I made about 25 preliminary sketch pages.)

Decide how long it will take you to do the work without feedback, come up with an hourly rate and you have a base price, then add in revisions and the like and add 25 to 50% to the price.

Just to give you an idea, full body in full color with turn around, 300 to 500 per character is pretty standard sometimes more. So 4500 for the lot maybe a little more. Of course it really depends on your skill level and your speed.

dpaint: Thanks. That gives me somethings to think about. The pricing range sound fair. I'll have to find out what their deadline/timeframe is.
