Unhappy lightning + iMac = 40 pound paper weight

    Hey everyone

Last thursday durring a thunder-shower a bolt of lightning struck my home. It was the first time I'd been at ground-zero for a lightening strike and I hope it's the last. I had even felt it myself. it was like I had stuck a paperclip in an outlet or something as my hands went numb for about two hours. Worst of all, (despite how had my computer hooked to a surge protector) my computer's powerboard, motherboard and network connection were completely cooked. We also lost a TV, two VCRs, a phone and two other computers that weren't mine.

Anyway, let's have a moment of silence for my Rev D Blueberry iMac, 8/29/98 - 6/3/2004. May it rest in pieces.

    Damn.

The worst I've ever had is a few modems and a phone blow out from lightning. None of which were from a direct strike though.

Is there anyway insurance might cover the costs?

Heh, speaking of lightning, this last winter, it was snowing rather hard out, but there was a freak lightning storm at the same time. A bolt actually hit a house, in the middle of winter, and burned to the ground.

So I guess it could be worse?

    My condolences anyways.

Ain't that some shit. I'll say a little something for the good Rev Blueberry before I go to bed... may God rest his fruity-colored soul.

loken: Yeah, hopefully my insurrance won't try to screw me. I just took the computer for an estimate at a local computer repair shop and the valued the iMac itself at $300, with a repair cost of $400. The replacement cost was set at $1200. I don't know what insurrance companies would opt to do in cases like these. I for one would never sink even a dime in repairing that computer since I know a losing battle when I see one. It's six years old and was already living on barrowed time when lightening struck.

strych9ine: Thanks. it would've appreciated it...Every part except when you called it fruity.

I don't suppose your surge protector was one of those with a big-dollar guarantee? Mine's like that, if only I had mailed in the registration -- probably void now.
