    Celestial Beholder

    Artist: PlasmaErnst

    Concept: Celestial Beholder

The Celestial Beholder is a creature which is rarely found.
Some adventurers tell stories of Celestial Beholders guiding them trough
dark dungeons deep below the surface when they ran out of torches.
They say once a Celestial Beholder touched you with his hand, you can see in the dark.

Not even in the deepest parts of Underdark can you find such a creature, as its very rare that a celestial comes to our plane. Although at first glance it looks like a beholder, but its skin seems to radiate if near enough you can almost feel the buzzing of the air of the energies that spawned it. The lack of heavy skin complexion gives it a more docile look but i wouldn't want to test its range of abilities.
Some stories say that they might even come to a traveler's aid unlike its counterpart from out realm. tho that's only speculation

Watching the skies at every daytime, the Celestial Beholder floats at a slow speed to spot enemies from a wide distance. His skin is lightweight like jelly. He uses his balllike organ to save energy and gather nutrients.

    COW #267 Celestial Beholder

    Artist: MAC

    Concept: Belestial

This once proud xenophobic species of the beholder kin hunted its brethren relentlessly. The pursued kin cursed and banished them in retaliation causing this xenophobe to survive in the recesses of space. Undergoing immense evolutionary change from biochemical to bio-energy the species developed technologically as well. They now encase themselves in runed symbolic housing reminiscing of their forming selves. They not only changed physically but culturally as well. The vast and drastic changes have rendered them passionate and empathic to other species and are now known as the Belestials.

    Concept: Celestial Beholder
In the more remote areas of the feywild one can find a most unusual creature. The first known sighting of them listed them as "glowing crystalline Beholders" and very little study has been conducted since, due to the tendency of researchers to explode, petrify, freeze, or otherwise encounter difficulties when attempting to approach specimens.

One day Elder Berlaagh declared that verily, they were the ghosts of long-dead beholders, and everyone agreed that made sense.

    Concept: Katharius
This is god's vessel that descends along with angels to purify the world of evil. The center of the creature contains the "eye of god" and the small tentacles above act as the detector or evil energy sensor. The long tentacles then drains the evil energy towards the eye of god for purification. The whole vessel radiates with godly aura that not only protects the rather weak body structure of the vessel, but it can also cloak the creature and conceal it from the human eyes. When the sky glows with beautiful colors, perhaps it's not the arctic lights, and the sparkles shimmer in the sky might not actually be stars.

It's like the war tank of the gods that aid the angels in the endless war between good and evil.

    Artist: Oskar!

    Concept: Celestial Beholder

Shrouded in the darkest cosmic dust, the Celestial Beholder drifts in outer space, searching for wounded planets.
The Celestial Beholder is able to channel the magical powers of the crown's crystals through its eyes, healing dying stars with a vivid beam of green light.
This light is able to travel incredibly long distances, and is often mistaken for simple aurora's.

Because of it's ability to restore life, it is often called The Healing Sun.

The skywatchers were once evil beholders but have been turned by the celestials to be the servants of heaven. Their eyes are able to pierce through the veils that separate the planes of existence and find any evil hiding from heavenly justice.

    Artist: Sporus

    Concept: Goy-Crulaninuza The Nutrix Stellarum

"Nutrix Stellarum" is Latin for Nurse of The Stars. A celestial beholder is the beholder for the good guys. The regular beholder is a pain when encountered and impossible to sneak by. The opposite of that would be your ultimate ally. Emerging from my creature is a field of Anti-Black Magic, it is blue energy that comes from its protruding secondary eyes. It is a neutralizer of evil and carnage. There are not many Celestial Beholders, there may only be one as far as the universe knows. In it's wake only peace and good fortune follow. When Goy-Crulaninuza comes in contact with a dying creature, star or planet, it's only focus is to then help and heal that injured element to full or even more health and power than it had before.
It's origin is that it is a creature of another dimension and rarely shows itself to the eyes of mortals. It's offensive power is not it's main asset, it is a holy cosmic defender at heart. If in "battle" it may not even bruise the weaker Metallic Dragons of D&D.

Voted for njoo for the beautiful image.
I didn't think this requirement was given enough attention, though:
"Your creature should be recognizable as the D&D monster: the beholder"
But then again, there were other concepts that stayed almost as far from the D&D monster as this one, so I guess it's okay.

I finally voted for TTmambo because of the awesome design and the mood of the picture.
Maybe i´m mad but that creature reminds me a bit from Claymore.

Its rly hard to decide this week, because many of the concepts have their pros and cons. Sporus gets my vote though. Like the cosmic concept and the overall design.
