    Drews Sketchderp

Welcome to my sketchbook! I'm Andrew, I'm from that wonderful (and rainy) country called Scotland. I've been into art since I was young, mostly caused by my introduction to Digimon and Pokemon. I know, don't laugh. Since about 7 I would sit in class and draw my own creation of Digipokes, but art has been on and off for me. There were some points where i wouldn't draw for a long time. My drawing has mainly been based around cartoons for most, even through High School. My art teacher stressed portrait drawing and drawing from life, yet all I wanted to draw was Pokemnz, and dragonz, and carz! I hated the idea of portraits. Not to mention the fact I was terrible at them, I didn't see the point. That was the thing, I was good at drawing what I, myself liked, or so I thought I was good. College it was the same, Pokemon doodles, silly crap. Then one day I was going through Stanley Laus gallery on DA, and all his Pepper paintings and drawings. I had never been so inspired. A lot of his stuff is pure fine art, the beauty of the female form and how he depicted it inspired me so much. So since that point I've been going down a more realistic route. I want to improve to the point where people find inspiration from my own work, but I have a long ways to go until that point. I'm someone who definitely needs a kick up the ass once in a while, so that would be helpful! I know I have talent for art, I just need to get my ass in gear and make something of it! Let's do this!

    Congrats on first SB upload.

You don't need to draw every single hair though.

    Keep on drawing!

Your teachers suck, not your art! You're doing great in practicing, so don't give up and don't listen to them!

The head of the last girl is a bit too small compared to the body, the Iron Man is pretty good!

Haha yeah I realised that when I was uploading it, small head long body, hah! I always somehow end up doing that without wanting to, I'm really trying to get better at drawing people, especially girls. I looked through your sketchbook and you're awesome at drawing girls! I had to subscribe

Thanks, Iron Man is my favourite Marvel Character, heh.

Hey good start, one thing though, when you're drawing or painting hair, don't put down a million scratchy marks. Try imagining the forms like clumps and render those clumps out, it makes the hair looks a lot more natural.

Thanks for the pointer, I appreciate it. Yeah I'll definitely look into that, I mean scratchy lines are pretty much my natural way of doing things, hah, but I'll be sure to try out your method if it helps make it better

Been working through a new book I got, by William Maughan on drawing the head. Fantastic book, I've learned so much from it already. Here's some quick practice of eyes and the nose and mouth, then I tried applying it to a picture of Kristin Kreuk, really happy with how it came out.

Here's a sketch that I started yesterday just for practice, but I ended up turning the girl into this Game of Thrones/Fantasy character, lol. Got totally lost in it! Did a DanLuvisi and added a little noise...not sure I got the same effect but I thought it was kinda cool.

Some stuff from the last couple weeks, a portrait I did for a friend, a sketch of Usain Bolt, and a practice sketch of some lady.

More head studies using the Loomis method. These were from imagination, though I'm going to need to look out more on hairstyles, I was running out of ideas at the end! Some of these are alright, some not so good, but it's really cool seeing the variety of characters that could be developed. Should keep going with this I think

Study/sketch practice I did today, tried to produce something a lot quicker than I normally do, though still took me a little while. But It's an improvement for sure. Also was trying a new sketching technique. Going to be doing a lot more of these

Hadouken! Pretty pleased with how this one came out. Tried something different with this, and keep the sketch lines in to add some energy, and also tried that paint splash sf4 look. Not sure if keeping the lines in worked but I do feel like there's an energy here which I wanted. Not perfect by any means but I feel like I'm getting better, I guess that's the important thing

Cammy done, really want to keep going with faces until I get to a really good level, that's why it's mostly portraits in here, not really concept art I guess I want to get to that same level with anatomy, and then we'll see. Environmental design interests me and character design too. So sorry if you're all fed up of portaits hah.
