Here's hoping he gets raped long and hard in prison and dies a slow AIDS riddled death.

This is really terrible beyond words. A 6 year old amongst the casualties?
It's terrifying how each day could potentially be your last, due to the whims
    of some pathetic living abortion.

I don't know which would be worse, if it's just some pathetic psycho or
some inbred religious fanatic on a terrorist mission. Either one is equally terrible.
My most sincere condolences for all those affected.

Hollywood Reporter really needs to remove the trailer at the top of the article. At
least try to show an iota of respect you tacky bastards.

They cancelled the red carpet showing in Paris in light of the shooting.

Cell phone footage of some of the aftermath. Besides the guy covered in blood the part that kills me is the poor kid coming out in his Batman costume at 1:06

In comparison, this guy murdered one more person than the Columbine massacre and injured twice as many.

A 3 month old was shot point blank range. I suppose he is dead.

I know that these people are psychopaths and have brain damage that others do not, but I still wonder; WHY? What is the point? Fame?

Then I remember a shooting by a Texas man who shot up an entire office building, and then went home and killed his wife. He was writing in his diary how he felt awful urges and how the doctors ignored them. He was afraid something like this would happen soon, and apparently did not know why he was doing it as he was doing it. He left his money to be donated towards brain related research "to prevent further tragedies such as this".

They later found a tumour growing in his brain.

So I suppose there need not be a reason... Scary, no?

The great news is that the 3 month old survived and is reunited with their family. The bad news is that a bunch of people's lives have been ruined permanently this morning.

    https://twitter.com/JessicaRedfield

This person died apparently. Her last tweet haunts me. It's only minutes before she was murdered.

Good to hear that the 3 month old is ok, but a bit puzzled why you'd bring a 3 month old to a midnight showing of a movie that's probably gonna be loud.

Sometimes I wonder why people do that but at the same time, maybe the mom knew the sound system wasn't going to be that bad. Sometimes it's like that. This theater didn't seem that big either.

I'm sorry but it's a 3 month old baby. Is the premiere MIDNIGHT showing of Batman that serious? Fuck it's not like it wasn't going to air after that. If you couldn't get a sitter, stay the fuck at home with your kid and go another day.

There's nothing more annoying than parents taking kids to shows at this time of night and you have to put up with their BS, it's not like movie showings are cheap.

Not ranting at you, just tired of parents doing this crap for the sake of a few hours of entertainment.

Anyways, least he didn't set off bombs because that would have made it far far worse.

Also the death penalty here doesn't work in the US because we have way too many appeals. In other countries you don't get that many appeals. Here people will sit a good 20 years in prison before executed.

It's also almost 3 hours long. I find it hard to sit still for that long as an adult; it must be torture for a toddler (unless s/he's asleep but I doubt it with all that noise).

About all the things people would do to murderers and serial killers, I can't help but remember that preachy sermon Rachel Dawes gives Bruce in the car when he admits he wanted to kill Joe Chill, something like justice is about harmony and revenge is about making yourself feel better. Obviously that was a different situation as Chill was mugging people out of economic desperation, but I still find the association kind of ironic.

Holy crap, the place must have looked like the ending to Inglorious Basterds.

Here's the part that kills me through.

The killer was a 24 year old student. Yes, a 24 year old student commited this, not some dillusional idiot with a rusty AK-47 He is still in custody and we don't know the motives but damn I hope he gets twenty life sentences.

I am reading Jessica Redfield's tweets. I have never felt so disturbed in my life.

EDIT: The Video of the shooting in the cellphone. Check the YouTube comments if you want to ruin your day more.

Its basically a bunch of morons shouting at each other over gun control.

What aggravates me the most is he's getting exactly what he wanted. Attention. I wish we'd make more of an example of people like this as a society, rather than make him a piece of history for other like minded people to aspire to.

These things almost always end with the murderer's suicide.

I wonder why he changed his mind?

(Booby trapping his apartment for the investigators seems to imply he didn't intend to go home again).

Could have been planning for suicide by cop.

He abandoned the rifle and the protective mask outside of the theater's exit door and surrendered to the police in a nearby parking lot without incident.

(I'm seriously hoping that we're not going to be "treated" to his manifesto. . .)

"...AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun and two handguns."

How does someone like that get his hands on such an arsenal?

    Christ, that's pretty frightening.
In order for me to carry my gat on duty (and we are just talking about a 9mm here)
I had to undertake theory exams, psychometrics, then a week long practical course
at a training camp, followed later by a revision of acceptable firearm practices.

That's not to say the crims here are not armed, because they all are, but there is
no ways a private citizen like that can carry that kind of hardware without being
a part of an organisation and passing tests, after tests and practical exams.

I am actually frightened for you guys there in the states and this coming from me
down in South Africa of all places. I'd implore you take care of yourselves, but what
can anyone do in the face of that kind of hardware in the hands of someone who
    is only out to kill.

But be on your guard as much as you can anyway...am I right in understanding
that gun laws vary from state to state?

What you're missing, Star Eater, is that, here in the States, population around 315 million, EVERYONE who's not certifiably bat-shit crazy OR a convicted felon, OR convicted of misdemeanor Domestic Violence, has a complete right* to own just about anything that's not a real machinegun, has a silencer, or has a (modern) bore diameter greater than .50.

State laws do make for some greater restrictions.

    The amazing thing?

Things like this are, still, pretty rare.

*a super-majority of the States are "shall issue" meaning the local authorities MUST issue a concealed carry license within 30 days UNLESS they discover a disqualifier--- see above.

So far from people on the ground i know in Law enforcement it is a mess. Random shooting , an apartment they will need to send in robot to dis-arm as he has it rigged to burn it seems. and this guy isn't on the grid no criminal record but for traffic ticket work on PHD was dropping out do to he was out of work and no grants or Loans(most likely maxed out) But so far it look's like he planed this in detail.. Did he Snap? No can tell.. from the way he has rigged his place he was planing more but got caught(90 Sec call answer by a 100 police officers that has to be a record) But the damage this guy has done is rippling through out the US and world. One we don't need more anti-gun laws as he seem to have got all LEGALLY .Two Profile wise there is lot Speculation on some that the guy I won't ever do that it too soon and it just wrong to saw he was bed wetting and was getting message from his bellybutton. This guy had nothing to show he was gong to in and shot people no twitter not FB post NOTHING.. Oh and he didn't say was The Joker the cop asked what with the Red hair job what are you the joker and he said What ever.. he just his normal hair with red streaks that had run due to him sweating from his Rubber Gas mask.. he did have smile and seem that it was funny the cops go there so fast. He had bombs and more guns in the car ready to go off and kill some more people .. He isn't going to get off on any of this I just can see what caused it .. other than stress of failing at getting the Phd.

Without wanting to go all over sentimental, it has to be said.
Cherish the times with your loved ones and family, make the
most of good health, life and everything that we take for granted.

Could any one of those people attending the premier for a superhero
movie realize that they were going to die in a hail of bullets or
watch kids being blown to pieces? You spend your whole life reading
about this kind of stuff in the paper not knowing that you are not going
to see your dream career or your kids graduate, all because you made
the "mistake" of going out one evening to the movies.

Hang him. As far as I'm concerned, if the the death penalty was still around (which it's not in England) there would be far more less callous attacks. People like this cost the economy millions of pounds, dollars and whatever. Dispose of them. If they cannot respect human rights, go out and do something like this, then they should not retain any rights of their own.

Hang him. Let him swing. People like this make me sick.

    Sorry for a vent.

The death penalty has never worked and never will work in deterring crime.

Additionally, it's not like it would suddenly "undo" the crime. It wouldn't bring the people back to life or anything.

Personally, I would want someone to imprison the guy thoroughly and have some sort of pathologist research him so if they could screen for people like this, it wouldn't happen again, (maybe a forensic pathologist).

To be honest, I do agree with you. I wasn't maybe as constructive as I could have been. But, it's just...like...my initial thoughts on a matter that is frankly shocking. I'd like to apologize, but in no terms do I have any sympathy for what is to come of the person who is guilty of this act.
