incinerated and latus: To do cat studies, I suggest looking at the skeleton, then muscle, then hairless cats (this was fun ), then the furred ones. Getting a good grasp on the skeleton will make sure you get all the proportions right and general massing, muscle will make sure you have a better idea how it moves and more massing, and hairless cats will get you an overall look at the critter. Hair (length, and color) are just icing. I'd never drawn a proper cat before, but the warp sequence only took me about 45 minutes. Maybe 25 for the first cat, and 10 for each after. However, I spend most of 2 hours doing studies before that.

Some gypsy guardian ideas plus a very unnnecessary rendering, but I was kinda bored and just couldn't stop myself.

Also, I was thinking that metallic armor is probably useless, considering her main enemies are all slimy creatures that don't even attack with sharp weapons and she needs the upper body mobility to throw the kittens more effectively!

Varguy-Great designs. My favorite is the third one with the branch. Perhaps she can ride the cat beast side saddle.

Incinerated-I'm glad to see your persistence on improving. I think there are only two things you really need to be concerned about now. Structure and rhythm. Once you get those two right, rendering should be a peace of cake. Look at Latus' studies. His give out the appropriate structural information. Here are some great images that should help you. Once you catch onto the absolute basics the rest comes together.

    I know it's hard.

I'm starting a ref hunt for the environments. Go ahead and post anything you'd like to see elements of.

I like the mood of this one. It would be cool to have something like this for the swamp. The Cypress looks haunted.

This could go along with it. I don't like the colors as much, but the dipping trees look fucked up in a good way.

    peep my new avatar.

Great work. Now I have every confidence that when it comes time to draw an army of cats you can step up to the bat.

I'll get started on a page layout. Now that the scale is established.

Yeah this is really slowing down. I hope you guys aren't losing interest.

Here is my first pass at the comic layout. I know it's rough, so I have two questions. Do you understand this layout? Do you like this layout?

I like the last 4 panels, but the first 3 seem a bit weak as far as establishing the scene and the general atmosphere goes. Here's a quick example how I would do it.

Starting very zoomed out to show the environment, the swamp in the distance, the guardian very far away etc. Then gradually zooming in on the guardian and her cats and then your panels kick in with the confrontation.

Panel 1 could be rather peaceful looking, during dawn or something, the calm before the storm etc. Then panel 2 is already inside the swamp and in direct contrast to that with spooky, rotten trees and slimy humanoid shapes watching the guardian from the higher ground at the bottom of the page.

Did a paintover of the scene. Hope you don't mind, Incinerated. If we are going to use this as the first panel I can upload the PSD to the dropbox so others can add and fix stuff as they see fit. Or were the others thinking more of a comic book style for the panels?

Either way, we should all work together on the panels and get them done first. Once that's finished we have all guidelines we need for the illustration, environment, industrial - and character design.

I dont mind, it was just an example ... You should just have asked for the psd for the paint over, nevermind, looks alright.

left a broken tower 3d model in the resource folder.

Varguy-Nice Panels and thanks for calling out the establishing shot. I'll start a better layout.

I just realized we need an industrial design. Should we give the staff more attention. Maybe the basket of cats too.

Raoul those last ones are a bit harder to tell... too chaotic for just black and white, harder not impossible.

Update-I spent some time giving a little definition to focal points. I think you'd have to be a mind reader to decipher my last post. Please let me know if it's all legible now.

your right the tri-corner hat turned into a pirate hat. So I dumped it and went with a straight powdered wig. Anybody have any ideas to push it over the top.

I also tossed in goo demons.for the fuck of it.

Guys we need a general plan, whose in charge of what, who is the leader... Yes we need a leader, we need a schedule, the deadline is Sunday, August 23.
when do we conceptualize, when do we work or finalize?

I really need to see some enthusiasms from you guys.

Yeah it's been a week since anybody besides me and Incinerated have done any work for this project. I was at least hoping for feedback.

I held my tongue on your last post Incinerated. I wanted to wait for somebody to give their two cents. But frankly I don't want to leave you hanging and I don't want you to think nobody gives a shit.

If anybody would like to tell me what the fun killer was. Please be honest, so we can learn from our mistakes.

Sorry for not being very active lately. I'm still totally up for working on this, I just don't really know where I should pick it up from here. I was suggesting we'd all try to work together on the panels, more importantly agree on what style we want to use for them, but didn't get an answer, so I thought that idea was rejected and waited for some new input.

Theres really no reason to hold back in this thread. I still think we should decide on a leader or a prime decision maker ... My main fear isn't the lack of work or posting, its direction. I think Varguy put up some solid concept suggestions, I believe we can provide a solid product from the Ideas we already have.

Lets just agree on some basic work flow, honestly, thats all we just need, leadership.

Throw off those turtle shells, stop being shy, make decisions.
