    Sara should be drawing.

Hello there everyone, I'm Sara, 22 and recent AAArt grad with a BA in Illustration, working, living, and trying to survive in Chicago.

I work mainly digitally anymore but I do keep a sketchbook on me at all times, and I'm hoping keeping this sketchbook thread alive will convince me to get off my butt and make sure I draw everyday.

I'm fairly new to this site, and it's a bit intimidating surrounded by so many other amazing artists but comments, critiques, and feedback of any kind is greatly appreciated!

The first two are speed paints (About an hour, hour and a half each.)
The next two are some quick studies and then finally a small doodle for an idea that I've been muddling around with.

More stuff, couldn't get a lot of work done today but something is better then nothing, right?

1st was a quick warm up portrait study, the 2nd is character I'm working on developing.

Wow I really like your stuff; your figures have a great graphic quality to them, and very lifelike. Really digging your digital illustration style, what great colors!

    Thanks!

This is no where near being done, but it's what I have for today.

I still have a lot of work to do on the figures and cleaning up the background, it's just hard to stay motivated in this 100 degree weather.

Looking good, I must say. I really like the characters you've drawn, they look very lifelike. And you're really good with colors, too.

Thank you! Color is something I used to struggle with so I make it a point to experiment with it whenever I can, so it's nice to hear it's paying off!

Small update for today, sort of hit an art block halfway through, so I think I'm going to put it away for now and work on some more studies before I pick it back up.

Any feedback would be great though.

Got roped into a 30 day sketch challenge with a few friends, each day is redesigning a different monster girl.

Here are my sketches for the first 3 days, Harpy, Centaur, Naga.

Had some issues with these, I don't normally do creatures (which is why I opted to do the challenge, practice.) but they were fun, and I'm going to clean them up when I have some time this weekend I think.

Used a earlier idea for the harpy, centaurs probably my personal favorite, need to fix a lot on the naga.

Ooooh shiii another awesome new sketchbook to subscribe to. The harpy's legs look a little off, particularly her right leg (our left) where her thigh seems kind of too short and skinny for the pose she's in. Such a wicked design, though. And that centaur looks so... contrite. Like it just committed a party foul and feels super awkward now.

I hope you do keep drawing every day.

Aaah, I totally see what you mean, thanks for the catch! I would have probably missed that entirely.

Your thoughts on the centaur are pretty dead on too; I'm going with a sort of apocalyptic/mutation thing with these guys and that one in particular I wanted to seem like it/she was ashamed of what she looked like, sorta, tragically macabre but still sorta serene looking over all.

    Totally appreciate the feedback!

Sorry about the lack of updates, some personal things came up that took a lot of time.

ANYWAY I managed to make some edits to the harpy and naga, as well as add my take on a slime girl, a spider girl, and mermaid, and start throwing on some colors.

Love seeing all these designs together--very cohesive, but all quite different from one another. The mermaid is sick, unlike anything I've seen. Hope you complete the challenge!

Sorry for the massive delay in posting, I was working at a studio for a few weeks and once that was done with my internet was down and bleh, excuses.

Anyway I do have some new stuff, a few sketches, a warm up painting and finally a more involved piece.

Updates, not much to say really.

Could use some ideas for the girl and robots cast shadows though, I can't seem to place them in a way that I'm happy with, so advice, as always, would be helpful!

Alright so I've got two versions I'm working with and I'm not sure which to move forward on. Also, I could totally use some advice on shadow placement for the chick and her robot; I can't seem to place them for whatever reason so input/suggestions ,as always, would be crazy helpful.

Alright, I've spent to much time on this so I'm calling it finished for now but I'd still love critiques. I'm pretty happy with it over all; I know the composition is pretty boring and there are some other errors but I feel like I learned from it, so I guess that's what's really important.

Also here's the first page of my brand new sketchbook. I know I need to post more of these pages but, well, I currently don't have a scanner and I feel bad posting crappy photos.

I keep meaning to update with more then one little piece but I guess that will just have to wait till I can borrow a scanner...or get my old one working.

ANYWAY quick sketch of portrait that I'm doing for Halloween. Still in the rough stages but it's coming along, and besides, my sketchbook could use a new post.

A couple of pages out of my new sketchbook, sorry about the camera quality. Hopefully I'll have access to a scanner soon.

    Just some quick figure/arm studies.

Great variety in your sketchbook, I like that you incorporate environments in your studies, and you have good understanding of values. Maybe doing quick b/w thumbnails will help you push those values more A bit of critique about that last illustration (#18), it looks somewhat busy as in the textures are trying to grab the viewers attention all at the same time. Maybe toning down the less important ones will be easier on the eye.

    Keep up the good work!

Cool start of sketchbook. I'm hoping to see more environmental studies as well as colour studies.
Post #10 top right corner slime jelly cube girl and also the lower left corner creature are my favorites so far.
Especially the girl, love the colours and pose you've chosen.

Nice start! I suggest doing lots of value and form studies. you already have some nice line work so study where those lines come from (light hitting edges of form) and you will really improve. for example the man's face in post #12 should not have such hard shading on his cheek, do some studies from black and white photos to see the natural progression of shadow

keep up the good work, can't wait to see you improve

thoose enviros are just gorgeous, big thanks for stopping by my SB I also like the first page with that sketchbook (pencil). Really lovely design.
The illustration on#18 is very nice too, I think its great that u put so much time and effort in that one.
Trying to give some feedback but I suck at it but here is a try. I agree abit with e-nat about the textures, maybe tone down the noise in the steam coming up and on the clouds?, but I do love the atmospheric effect on the background wonderful SB. Keep it up!
