Booyah! Welocme Ricardo! Yah I can adjust, do we want to come up with a different Enviro and work that up?

I've been really busy with new responsibilities at work recently so I've had less time to work on this than I'd like, have a deadline that's coming up quick so everyone is running around like crazy. When I have time I'll look at the dropbox and see what we have and talk to you guys about what we want to do.

With Ricardo we have to do panels now as well, not that it will be a huge deal, I think we can use some of the images we already have as enviro's for the panel shots.

    here's some creature thumbs...
    1-sort of a flying scout
2-land based scout that howls to awaken the guardian
3-very small, hidden, swarms guardian to activate
4-telepathic beacon in a way, will awaken guardian from wherever when danger is imminent...

rob really nice silhouettes and shapes too, concept wise i like all,
-concept wise no 1 is a winner for me
-shape wise i like the 4,2
    -3 seem generic to me

the size may be very large in compassion to guardian, he may fly him

Rob Powell Cool silhouettes and environment thumbs man, I think creature 2 looks prity cool but abit sluggish atm, and 1 looks very promising too. Also, i think the idea of having the creatures as the guardians 'pets' is gonna make life much easier and work beter.

sony I'm really liking the colour palette you've come up with, its especially effective in Rob's thumbs. The structure is looking prity cool too.

Flame_Unquenchable I know the feelin dude, having no time completely sucks x_X We'll work stuff out soon hopefully.

Ricardo Robles Welcome dude! It's gonna be really exciting having your expertise aboard.

did some pencil sketches yesterday for the concepts of the guardian, possible creature, and some yuliari homes...I added the full view in the dropbox if you want to paint over...
I'm gonna see if I can render out the guardian and creature soon...

ps.-Ricardo is fairly busy atm, but he may be able to partake soon if he can, as you may or may not have known he recently acquired a new job so his schedule is quite hectic...

It feels good to paint again...

quick creature concept...I was sort of inspired by seeing little iridescent droplets of oil on the asphault after a rain storm and thought it would look pretty cool as eyes on a creature...

this is still a wip however...

I was thinking it would produce some sort of electrical energy that would allow this creature to float as well as (with the help of several others) to wake the guardian...

sony Hey man, i just looked at the final date and it says 23rd which is on a Sunday. Abit confusing because because 23rd is on a Thursday, 26th is a Sunday.

If we say sunday is the final date, thats 1 week and 4 days left, and thats not even including tidying it all up and getting it presented together etc etc.

We could still nail this but i think it would mean taking abit moe drastic action. I propose we do either 2 things -

1, Try and finish up 2 of the 4 (maybe 5) tasks we have ahead of us by Sunday. That would leave about 6 days to do the illustration between us as well as the remaining other task.

2, Deligate certain tasks between us. Set a date for us all to finish our chosen tasks on the same date, we could post our WIP's through the time left and any flaws or help we can give each other we do as paint overs.

I think time and other commitments have overwhelmed us abit, but i still really want to make this work. We have a prity awesome idea and i think we could nail it in time if we're all still up for it. The above are only suggestions, if you guys have any thoughts you want to share i'm all ears

Also, ive been practicing linework alot lately, not sure how relevant this is but i did a clean up of Rob's guardian sketch

warburton I'd say that is pretty darn relevent!

so, I did a quick half-hour render for the lulz...also experimenting with a new technique...

There are a few design choices I wanna change/add/subtract that I was thinking about...for example to make it seem a bit more 'artificial' perhaps removing the eyes?...but for now this is just a b/w render, no changes to warburton's linework here...

oh wow, you solved lots of stuff for me am also painting the colored version, will upload in a evening

b/w how about the hands, you guys wanna skip the hands or they are underneath that claw, this is the naked version of the guardian, I was thinking to give him some sort of cloths made out of leather or skin of other creatures around.

unfortunately Ricardo had to drop out, with moving and everything he's got quite a handful, and by the time he get's himself organised the contest will most likely be over...it is probably best cuz he hasn't had the chance to contribute anything yet, plus it'll make our workload a bit smaller, because of his departure we no longer need to create the Panels for the finals, as I can see no one has yet posted any ideas for the panels so I guess it is best if we just drop it all together...

    _______

Now a few other things that I like to discuss...it's getting close to crunch time, I'm thinking within the next few days the finals thread will be posted...we technically still have nothing finished yet for posting....

we'll need to assign everyone with tasks so we can start getting down to business with these...my thoughts

I can try to contribute a little to everything...but I guess the creature will be mostly my responsibility...

sony you seem to have a strong grasp on the environment, and since you already have some IDW experience you could work on the weapon also...you already have some roughs that you posted a while ago, plus you could use the designs that warburton and I had sketched out as well...

warburton you and I could pass the character back and forth, like we are already doing basically...

flame I've noticed you've been busy with life as well, so I'm not sure what you'll want to do...possibly work on the enviro with sony?

We could all contribute a little to the illustration
I'll wip up some illustration thumbs/comps for us to tackle, hopefully I'll get them posted either tonight or tomorrow morning...

if you have a different idea or want to work on something else feel free to post your thoughts, what I poted here is just me getting my thoughts out and not absolutely what we have to do...

one more thing...don't forget for the character/creature/industrial we NEED AT LEAST 2 views for the final! I guess they might allow one view a little more scrappy, but I'd try to keep it a little more refined so it is fairly legible...

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

Sounds good dude, if you want Rob we could pass the creature too like we're doing with the character if you want? To save more work load for yourself.

Theres some design issues i'd like to put forward on the character too, perhaps some different weapon and armour ideas and stuff, i'll try and post them later. If you guys found that linework thing useful, once we get the final design sorted i can the same with a reverse shot also if you want?

sony Liking the character illustration alot, theres great mood with that piece. I'm looking forward to seeing your environment and industrial design too, theres no beter man for the job.

edit - some colour variations, using Rob's values

I was thinking i can also do this ship concept for industrial design, as the weapon is already design by you (rob_powel & warburon ) guys which is really awesome. what you guys suggest?
---stick to the weapon design or do ship concept?

Really nice environment piece Sony, I don't know what i could add to this which you couldnt do beter.

Go for it dude, a ship design would be really cool. Just 2 things to remember is to 1, make it consistant with the rest of the concept and 2, make sure it fits into the overall story. Whos flying the ships? would they fit in the illustration? what role do they play? etc etc
I'm sure you know all this already, i'll stop harrasing you ;p

    thanks Mr. Beats!!!!

I did some mix and matching with warburton's variations 1 and 3...came with some more interesting colours here....top two are warburton's original variations, I personally like 1 and 4 the best
you'll also notice some head variations, tried to see how it would look without eyes, like I suggested earlier, what do you guys think?

nice addition rob, excellent additions, i will paint those clouds and that two homes which you have added are really making the compositon work more efficiently and lived! although i suggest that extreme bg home in the center is a little bigger, will make it smaller. removing the distant second ship is a good decision too

--4th one is very interesting for me
