i know it doesnt seem like ive done much but i redesigned it like 22 times reaching for different feels and ended up just settling on this design
i liked the darker skin and the blue that shorinji had done so i continued on that but made them glow i guess to give off the majestic mythical thing goin

As I see it everyone's been asking about the date for a long time and recieved no answer, and the general consenus seems to be for Sunday. That is what we should plan for.

Anyway, I've started repainting large parts of the enviroment because they were driving me crazy, so I want the extra time to fix everything. I think I finally fixed the atmospheric and perspective problems. I decided to paint in some roads after checking a book out of the library about city planning. Now I just have to re-detail everything.

Shorinji: I think that's an improvement sine last time I'm thinking perhaps you could add some other color to make it less monochromatic... Perhaps add some foreground elemt to add depth. Like a ship heading towards the palace... Just ideas of course.

Pencil: I think it's looking good. As a general advice, though. Be careful with the black Also, if the stripes are meant to be their own light sources they wouldn't have any (or very little) shading...

Here's my finished turnaround as well as comic page.

Looking good guys! I'm almost done with everything. I just have to drop in the text for the comic and spend another couple of hours putting a finish on the enviroment. I'll be ready by tomorrow.

I think this is the hardest thing I've ever tried to paint...

Edit: It's a little dark in expolorer, but It looks right in chrome. I'll have to try to find a middle ground.

penciltipred: Thanks! Yeah we need orthos for the creature. I guess we have until they post the finals thread.

I think they forgot about us...

Penciltipred: I think that's a bit better. But I think you can take it even further. After all, a lightsource doesn't reflect light as much as it emits it. Therefore its shadows can't be any darker than its innate brightness...

Here's a paintover to show what I mean.

You can make the lines themselves almost completely white because of over exposure, and then make the edges blue to show what color the light is.

Since the finals thread is up now I think everyone should try to post all of their final work here by friday so we can put our logo and presentational elements on everything. We have to make sure we follow all of the submission steps properly.

I want to say thanks guys for doing this with me. It has been a blast and I've enjoied working with you guys a lot! I think that we have produced a good product and I'm proud of it.

tobbA: I thought I was subscribed to this thread, but I didn't get a notice. Sorry tobbA, I wasn't ignoring you on purpose. I just thought this thing was dead and everyone else moved on. I probably wouldn't have noticed this if I hadn't checked to see if any of the other teams submitted to the finals. I know the new dead line is over but if you want we can still finish and just post it in the finals thread a little late.

Notice to anyone curious about what happened to this:
The Team Challenge fell apart when everyone realized that it wasn't going to receive any real support from the site leadership. This thing needed a little push to get the community behind it. It looked like it was going to get it at first, but as soon as the top members realized it wasn’t most of them bailed. Then when they pulled the plug on the site right on the last day or so and the site was down for a few of weeks, it killed everyone’s interest. This has sat dead for quite a while leading the rest of us to assume that it was just forgotten. Now it has apparently been given a new deadline which has just ended, but there wasn't much notification that they were reviving it. I think the majority of the members here missed it, since it sat dead so long, the rest just didn't care anymore.

Still the journey was fun, and I still feel like this was worthwhile. If any of the other members who want to continue this despite the overall contest failure, let me know. Nothing says we can't keep working on it. We did after all have a good ideas and a great start.

It's ok. It was mostly an attempt to see if there was any interest in continuing anyway. It would be kind of fun to post things in the finals thread just because... I'm not sure what exactly we have left to do though?

I guess we need to see if the other guys want to post finale images here. Then one of us could add the frames and branding and post them in the finales. If they're not interested, maybe we can just take the last images that were posted and call those the finales and submit them? I think I would like to finish this, if only because I did really care about this, before they updated the site.
