Yeah, I'm not worried about it, everyone has real world obligations.

I agree about the approach. For now I think, everyone should tackle whatever they feel like. Then once we have a stockpile of visual ideas, we can all choose what works best.

Before long we will get an idea of who is best suited for different tasks. However I want to make sure that, in the end, everyone takes ownership of one of the design tasks. I think maybe we should share the panels. It would help unite our styles and tie all of the different design task elements together.

    Here's a tenative itinerary
Week 1: Ideas for story arc and concepting
Week 2: Silhouettes and thumbnails the design elements
Week 3: Start rendering the choosen ideas
Week 4: Finish the design elements
    Week 5: Panels
Week 6: Finals art tweaking and brand presentation

    Does this sound about right?

yeah hi sorry, like the sci-fi idea and all the backstories you guys are coming up with but that's not the problem. Personally, I don't think we actually need to think about all of these backstories about what this homeland place is, unless it's related to the panels.

My suggestion is similar like Shorinji Knight up there just suggested, we all pitch in design choices for what ideas (thumbs, drawings, whatever) we have for each of the categories (except for panels), we unanimously agree on which design for each category we like the best for, and then we use those designs to make the panels. Great ideas on what the homeland is, but aside from maybe the main character, those ideas haven't extended to specific creature or industrial design.

So anyways, I was working on some thumbs + silhouettes/ideas for creature and industrial this past week, but I'd really like to just focus on industrial, cause I ended up getting more ideas for it.

either way, my idea for the panels/narrative is a police chase between whatever our main character is and the homeland's security measures. (coptor, mechs, or whatnot). Of course, the main character I was thinking of is more or less, a rebel etc. etc.

Sorry for being brisk but I got rainy weather, my wifi is slowly dying, classwork, and internwork. Runnin' on god knows what.

    Good stuff guys!

One thing to consider when posting our roughs... It would help if we numbered each sketch on the page. That way it will be alot easier to communicate exactly what we mean. I imagine english isn't everyone's first language here, so we need remove as many obstacles to understanding as we can.

I think so... Right now just draw what comes out and if it is cool we'll all try to work it in.

Shorinji like the outfit of 2 but i like the more sci-fi style 4 its hard descision
i had some ideas for the character but nothing really solid i kept drawing from military tanker outfits
anyways for the creature i wanted to expand on some of the concepts done by hekatoncheir with a floating creature with like aquatic aspects
    i like 1 and 4 alot

@Shorinji, Number 3. I think is the one i picture most if its some sort of rebel character.

For the beast i think one of the last shapes in hekatoncheir´s post look interesting. The one thats kind of a boney shark, and i see Pencil is also sketching something along those lines.

Playing a bit with an idea for the Guardian (which i´m taking as the deity), and The dictator. Inspired a bit by the Egyptian god Horus and beak doctors.

so itll all come togethor as a whole lets put the same design influences on the the character it seems jdsart u derived some stuff from that european thing ,its cool
to me it doesntseem were embracing sci-fi aspects that much
oh and iremember some one mentioning the government or sumthin misuses the creature so i was thinking of it having like i guess numbers on them have some tribal marks mostly wiped off as if they were took from theyre environment bagged and tagged and marked

JDSart: I like the first one the best I think the eye like markings is pretty cool, but I'm not sure it is humanoid enough to qualify.
TobbA: I think the winged woman on the top and the middle guy on the bottom have the most potential.
penciltipred: Yeah we do seem to be having trouble getting the sci-fi flavor here. I think most of us are more comfortable with the fantasy genre so its natural that fantasy what's gonna come out...

We need to step out of our comfort zones guys. Looking at some of the competition, this is going to be killer. Lets push past our boundries, render to the max, and back all of our designs up with solid references so that we don't end up having anything wonky going on (I'm saying this as much for myself as for anyone else).

Anybody have any ideas on enviroments yet? I tried a few things but I wasn't happy with any of them.

I included a couple pictures of Ziguraths and Babel tower in the sheet i posted last page because my first ideas have been along those lines.

Maybe the heart of the metropolis is underground inside this huge mountain foundation with a zigurath or enormous babel tower with different levels rising on top . And on the outside, on the base area, mostly wastelands, landfills and a sea of slums.

The main monuments carved in stone and the whole thing being kind of an ant colony too.

Sketching enviroments is a bit out of my element for me too, i´m going to at least expand my idea a bit more with images while i try to come up with something.

    Mexico City i believe.

This type of building blocks are another kind. This is called 23 de Enero. In Caracas

And this is where it gets cute. Police won´t even enter those places. These zones are controlled by different armed groups often with military grade weapondry.

The panels are 2 pages, which is not really a story format, more like a situation.

I believe we can divide the work once we have our elements figured out, we cannot really start illustrating somwthing without those.

Hmm... So maybe this power source that has been invented is really expensive, which means only the richest can afford it, causing a huge rift between the classes. Maybe there are underground groups who oppose the ruler who spend most of their time stealing power crystals from the nobility in order to finance and power their rebellion.

And those slums looks scary btw, had no idea something like that existed...

As for the panels, they should be at least two pages. So we can do more if we want to.

Here's one of the thumbs a bit more fleshed out. So I'm imagining this as the rebel character, fighting baddies with his magically powered glove...

Wait question, why are the characters going in fantasy mode? Are we officially sticking with fantasy-style? Because then I need to change the mecha I was doing.

Also I can do the illustration or panel, which ever one isn't taken by the end.

    blargh sorry for inactivity. :|

But LOVE the Babel/slum enviro. Whoever is working on that, that enviro will be cool no matter what lol.
