Tried doing some clothing today. It was tough since I haven't practiced it in forever. I would have outlined it but my tablet was being finicky tonight and I couldn't be bothered to restart my computer.
Things to fix:
Tighten up the shirt so it's not so baggy
Redo (our) right foot/ankle.
Raise (our) right arm's elbow so it's closer to waist level, make hand smaller
Look into muscle/fat distribution on women. A friend thinks something looks weird about this.
edit: @knocknoc Thanks! Sorry, just saw your post after I posted. I'll try to lower the saturation in the distance in the future. I think I was focusing a lot on not straying too much from my initial colour palette, so I was just colour picking from the image.

Just some easy doodling/venting tonight to relax a bit.
Still life I've been working on.
Realized there's a fundamental problem with this drawing. The posture doesn't show any emotion and doesn't actually mimic what someone would look like if threatening or swinging a tire iron. The reference model I used was posing, not doing. I got really annoyed when I realized this so far into the drawing. Not sure if I'm going to keep going on.
Also, the wrist needs to be fixed. It currently looks very broken.
Two landscape paintings, 30 minutes each. I got too caught up in the details sometimes and ended up missing huge chunks of the photo.
Here's also a still life I've been working on. Keep forgetting to post it here since it's in the WIP forum.
Some figures I drew just now. As a whole, I rarely feel as if I'm improving in my artwork. Occasionally though I draw something that makes me go "Hey, that's actually not that bad". Today that was the gesture of the girl clawing skywards.
Some stuff I did at work, including a poor model with a deformed face.
I also tried my hand at another self-portrait tonight. I think this is the first one that I don't think looks awful. Only took two years for that to happen.
Quick cheek fix.
Been fixing up my self-portrait in Photoshop. I have some other stuff I've drawn over the last few days that I'll upload soon too. Unfortunately it's 5:16am here in residence and I have the noisiest scanner in the world, so I don't want to wake any of my neighbours up.
Did these a few days ago. I don't practice expressions ever, so some of them translated horrifically. They were done with five minute time limits.
A quickish figure and some one minute hand gestures. I think I might take a look at bridgeman soon. I feel my anatomy could use some work.
Took a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum today. Drew lots of dinosaurs. It's really hard to freehand straight lines when you have a tiny sketchbook and no table!
I did this to kill an hour in the subway station. It's not the prettiest or most representational thing I've ever drawn, but it has a certain charm to it that I can't quite place.
Finally finished the self-portrait. Probably not as polished as it should be, but I've been working on it for quite a long time and I'm getting sick of it. I'm pretty proud of it regardless and it makes the original drawing look like crap. I don't think I've ever spent so long trying to render before. This is probably one of the best portraits I've done. No where to go but up.
We had a concert at work today, so I drew some of the band and audience members.
Some stuff I've been picking at over the last two days.
Edit: Bleargh. I've been experimenting with saving my sketches at lower qualities, since before I was saving everything at the highest quality possible and wasting hard drive space. Didn't realize this would look so awful at this level. Sorry about that.
love that last animal study, deers is a big subject in general with animals i find that doing some quick diagrams of their body structure helps when you ahve to pull away from the reference and do them from your head, keep up the good work!
Thank you! Yeah, I was trying to learn the basic shapes their bodies are made of by studying from reference. It's hard to see because of the horrible quality of the image, but I was trying to use spheres/cubes/cylinders to build up the drawings.
This is some old lineart from reference that I found in my Digital WIP folder. I can't find the original reference photo, unfortunately.
Started work on what will hopefully become a comic panel. More subway stations!
Have mostly just been working on that subway station drawing, along with another panel and a few gestures. One of the pages didn't scan very well, so I didn't upload it here.
Someone should really keep me away from my sketchbook between 1-7am. I'm probably going to regret posting this by the morning.

Try visualising the face in planes when doing a portrait, this will help with proportions and getting the volume right.
Also stop drawing lines on the edges of features. For example the top of the upperlip, this is a edge that is usually very light, same goes for the bridge of the nose, it makes the face maculin, girls have a softer nose-bridge with a light shadow on the side, so instead of drawing a line, place a light shadow.
Keep practicing, you'll get there!
Thanks for the tips! I was sketching with a girl at work the other day (post #165, actually) and I noticed she was using planes to define the faces of people we were drawing. It was really great to see it in person because I could actually watch how helpful it is to know that. It's definitely another thing on my list of things to practice.
I really enjoy looking at the sketches of deer (they can be some tricky fuckers to draw - I did a whole lot of antilopes myself a few weeks back) and the sketches you made at the museum. Museums are really good places to study animals because they hold still and you can draw them from all angles, provided of course that the taxidermist did a good job. I also like the two line drawings of enclosed environments!
Keep working on those facial expressions. They're very awkward at first, I'm struggling with the same thing right now. What helps me is to keep in mind how squishy and mobile our faces are! Seriously, put your hands on your face for a moment and just try to see how many hideous/hilarious expressions you can achieve, and how many your face can hold without help by the hands. It's important to keep the volumes constant, of course, but that doesn't mean they're restricted to stay in one shape forever. Squash and stretch those faces! (Haha, my animation training is coming through )

Kjesta, believe it or not I was looking at your sketchbook the other day and your ungulate drawings were actually what inspired me to take a closer look at deer. It made me so happy to hear that you liked them, haha Thanks for the advice on facial expressions!
I'm back home for Christmas and without a scanner, but I brought my camera along. Finally uploading some drawings. Sorry for the nasty quality.
Wanted to try my hand at some traditional painting for the holiday. I was working through Jack Hamm's "Drawing Scenery" and tweaked thumbnails as I read through it to try and get a good composition (you can see progress from bottom-right to top-left). I'm really struggling with the actual painting though. I didn't buy the right shades of blue or red to mix the colours I wanted at first, so I had to repaint the entire canvas when I did finally get the right paints. The big orange/yellow blob is supposed to be a sunshine covered hill, but as you can see it's not remotely finished. The sky hasn't been dealt with yet either. I feel like everything I know gets lost when I pick up traditional paints, probably because I don't practice nearly enough with them.

Thought I'd upload the source image for my avatar. I drew this as a joke for my friend in late 2010 or early 2011. I recently went back to it, made the lines cleaner and fixed the colour up a bit. I still really love this image (the redo) even though the original is pretty old.

As for your work wow great progress I would say make sure you work on your proportions. In some of your drawings especially the guy laying down the body is not proportioned well.

Drawing my feet while laying down on the couch, and a very crappy sketch of a lamp.
Some stuff from the last week kicking around at home, as well as stuff from today when I went to the local musem. I feel like I have a really hard time making things still look coherent when I add values, like I lose the form. It seems to happen regardless of whether I blend things or keep them sketchy. Any advice?
This Dunkleosteus skull cracks me up. I think I'm going to colour it Photoshop when I get back home, sort of like what I did with the "Bikes!" bat.
